Paradise Pizza pulls out of Ballard

Posted by Geeky Swedes on April 25th, 2008

Paradise Pizza, which replaced Domino’s Pizza at Market St. at 6th Ave., has just closed down. While we never ate there, reviews on Yelp were mixed.

This sign was on the door…

With the departure of Zagi’s two weeks ago, Ballard is now minus two pizza joints. Recommendations, My Ballard readers?

  • Veraci Pizza at the Ballard Farmer's Market is the best in Ballard. I'd put them above Zagi's too, come to think of it, except for the fact that it was only available once a week.

    Not Snoose.
I haven't gone back to Zadya Buddy's since a bad experience there.
Crash Landing didn't look quite great.
Palermo is on my list to try.

Madame K's is good, but not the 'To Go' type pie that we lost with Zagi's loss.

Stacia's wasn't half bad, tho is a bit out of the zone.

    Limited choices -
Zadya Buddy is a big no, Palermo is only so-so. Snoose annoys me on several levels so they are out. Crash Landing was terrible. If I want to eat at the restaurant Madame K's wins. For take-out Soprano's is pretty good and they have great salads too. They'll also deliver.

    Will try Veraci next!

Now if there was decent chinese or japanese in Ballard...
  • Stacia's is our go-to, Sopranos is good too. That place on 6th never seemed to get off the ground - I'm not sure that moving in where no chain dares to tread was a good idea.

I have a confession... We order Zeek's delivery from the ridge.
  • I kind of like Zeek's too. Zagi's broke me of Zeek's, but now, who knows.

As for decent Chinese... I still like like Chef Liao up on the ridge. It isn't Ballard, but it's close enough for gov't work. =)

I looked in Zagi's windows, the pizza ovens are gone, so so much for renting it and taking Zagi's place.

When you go to Veraci, I recommend getting at least one slice with the red sauce, which I think is some of the best red sauce I've had around, but definitely try one of the olive oil slices if its on special... The pepperoni always comes out nice and crispy.

I am a Snoose fan. If you are looking for an eat-in, the pizza the Hi Life is excellent.

Ugh- Soprano's gave me a three-day stomachache both times I've had it. I like Snoose, too.

Soprano's and Stacia's are my favorites, by far. I think that new place on Market is pretty good too although it's not really a "pizza place".

I love the idea of Snoose, but I think it's a bit over-priced, and I always get a weird, negative vibe when I go in there. I have no idea why! My daughter loves it, though, so I do end up taking her a lot. Wish I could just get over it. :-)

I never tried Zagi's and I'm really regretting it! Paradise: no big loss, IMHO. Tried it a couple times and it was boring as could be.

The Hi-Life is Hi-ghly overrated on all fronts. They are High on my don't bother list.
  • This is bullshit on the highest level. Paradise Pizza is a half a block from my feeble hovel and the pizza was delicious when inebriated.

God damnit Ballard. You're failing me on a weekly basis lately.
  • Wendy
I really like Snoose and they deliver by bicycle to our house. Other wise it is Pagliacci extra done crust please :)
  • I had something at Snoose. And that right there is a really good example of why I don't think I'll ever go back. I have no clue what it was that I ate.

And yeah, I had the same feeling in there.. It just feels.... wrong in there. Maybe it's built on a Hellmouth or Rift or something =)

Palermo's is my current favorite. Dining in is only good if you get a window table though.

Soprano's and Snoose are tied for second. I wasn't a huge fan of Snoose's sauce when they first opened, but I hear they have changed it.

I have not tried the Farmer's Market pizza place. Maybe next Sunday.

There's always a line into the street @ the Farmer's Market Pizza place.

Snoose is alright. The calzones are HUGE, but doughy.

Our go-to is Stacias. The pizza is delicious, and the mini-chocolate-chip-cookies are my crack.

We get take out from Sopranos all the time. The pizza and salads are great. But I did love Zagi's pizza too to bad someone couldn't just take it over when the old owners decided to leave.
  • Joel
John Eddy: "Hellmouth or Rift". Funny.

It's a shame, because I think the pizza is pretty good. Not the best, best pretty darn good! But $20+ for one of their pies? And what, $3-$3.50 for a slice? Huh uh. Not for me.

I hate to dis the place, because I love that they are so Ballard-esque, and the story of the flag, the Leilani bowling lane (right?) tables are awesome. But MAN, I always feel like I'm an inconvenience when I'm in there, like maybe it should be called "Snooty Junction" instead. How about a smile, or even a hello? Something.

Sighhhh...oh well. Brian, you're just going to have to limit your pizza consumption to sober times!
  • Ballardite just suggested that the block across from Rain City Video and Walt's may contain a pizza place.

I went to Zayda Buddy's yesterday and it was pretty good. We ordered the Farmers Market (all veggies) + pepperoncini. I thought it was good -- good enough to go back.

Stacias is our delivery joint. They're consistent and have every topping ever. And yeah, the cookies are delicious.
