Sign removed from Sunset Bowl

April 26th, 2008 · 4 Comments

We noticed today that the “Sunset” sign has been pried off the building.

Only scars remain. We didn’t see the sign in the Sunset Bowl auction lineup last week, so we wonder who’s keeping it?

Hopefully it can be revived as art or on another business.

Blame the Denny’s travails. The big fight that ensued cost us an operating Sunset until ready for construction. Too much risk a wannabe architectural group would call this historic, so they’ll alter and demo this asap.

We need to brace ourselves -this thing will be demolished before summer.

    Project # 6178409

Demolish 25,000 sq ft bowling alley and construct a 6-story mixed use building including about 230 apartmetns, 15,000 to 25,000 sq ft of retail and parking for 280 cars.

Biff: you’re wrong. It was the mechanics of allowing a third party to operate the bowling alley that ultimately tripped up the idea.

There is not one person in all of Seattle that thinks the Sunset Bowl building is architecturally significant. It’s a big square warehouse, for crying out loud.
