Okay, they shouldn't have messed with the back room. A fish tank was a terrible idea. But the bar is still pretty much the same, and the food is good and cheap. It's not really a beer sort of place, but they have plenty in bottle form is you don't like the limited taps.

Stupid fish tank, great meat loaf, ambivalent servers on occasion.

Solid pub food. Good burgers and a surprising menu that is executed solidly. They also have a smart, small, affordable wine selection.

The only downside: the back room used to be great; lots of tables that could be pushed together for larger groups, occasional shows from Kevn Kinney or even Whiskeytown (going way back). It was a good gathering place.

And then they remodeled and put in crappy, stationary booths and a giant, bizarre fish tank and louder music that makes conversation difficult. I'd love to ditch the booths, bring back the tables, and serve the fish in a stew and be done with them. Oh, and bring back the odd show in the back room -- they were great.

    The place is filthy!

I remember when they used to have this really tall curved wall that separated the bar from the restaurant. It was cool. The varnish was all worn off at shoulder height from the drunk fishermen who would lean against it on it as they staggered their way in for a drink.

Then the in-breds came to town.

They chopped the wall down and made it look like a Denny's Restaurant.

Then they had an election and voted one of their own as "Mayor" of Ballard.

Oh how I miss Hattie's. They kept the sign and the bar but the back room is gone. Has to be the dumbest restaurant remodel ever. Lose the stupid tank and give us Hattie's!

I went with some friends recently. We watched the server dump glasses of beers into pitchers after taking them to the wrong tables. Kind of gross. The appetizers we ordered were also not very impressive, but I've heard great things about the brunch. .

I really really really want to like Hattie's. 3 separate occasions have shown me that the beer all tastes like it comes from filthy tap lines.

It used to be a regular of mine. Hell, my wife and I even had some of our wedding pictures taken in front of the place. But that was 4 years ago. But things have really gone down hill after Larry departed (their old manager). He warned me, and boy was he right!

Ever since the smoke cleared up, I can see how ugly and drunk everyone is. Including me as I can see the mirror now. It's just not the same...

i agree. the fish tank should go. i hate sitting in the back having to look at that thing.

I agree with the stupid fish tank. No tank should have that much brown in it. The fish look so sad.

great drinks, great food... but i have to admit--- am a wee bit of an old-school snob and miss the ambiance of yesteryear... stupid fish tank.
