New bakery coming to Ballard

Posted by Geeky Swedes on May 7th, 2008

My Ballard reader Cindy tells us that China Cat Coffee and Tea on NW 70th St. (right next door to Gracewinds) has closed down. “But fear not fellow caffeine addicts,” reads the sign on the door. Two doors down, Honore Bakery (below) will open in June “serving Lighthouse coffee.”

Also, the Briar Patch Children’s Bookstore right next door has expanded.

    Working class? Elitist? Ouch!

Hmmmmm, $2 croissants & $3 baguettes from my dream Parisian boulangerie on Rue St. Honoré, that I can wash down with $4 café espress, all conveniently located here in working class Ballard.

And who says good taste is elitist? At these prices, it'll make Starbucks look decidedly down market.

    See you there folks!

Most importantly, what hours do they plan to be open? It would be nice to have a bakery in Ballard that's open after 6 p.m.

If the sign is any indication, this could be a reaaallly good bakery. This side of Ballard needs something like this.

Darn! Just when I stopped eating carbs! I only live a couple of blocks away too. :-(
  • I love bakeries. This is good news.

With the cost of flour causing headaches and increased prices at local bakers and patisseries such as Cafe Besalu and Tall Grass, I think it seems like a tough time to launch a bakery ... but I definitely will check it out.
