Package stolen off front porch

May 14th, 2008 · 12 Comments

A woman on 56th St. near 7th Ave. called Seattle Police after someone stole a U.S. Postal Service package right off her front porch. The package, sent by her mom, was discovered a short time later in someone’s front yard down the street, but without the contents. Has anyone else had this problem? Makes us wonder if we should have our occasional Amazon.com purchases shipped to our workplace instead of left on our front porch at home.

yup- happened to me with a UPS package. Made me so mad - they came in through the front gate, grabbed the package, and left the wrapper a couple of houses down the street. WTF - who just hangs out watching for packages to steal?

Ballard Sip n ship will accept packages for you for a small fee. It’s not a bad option when you are ordering expensive items or wine.

Ballard Mailbox & Shipping next to Archie McPhee’s does the same thing. Only around $2 for a normal size package.

I had no idea! I hate having packages left on our front porch. So do you have to let the Sip n Ship know to expect your package?

It’s happened to me, too. Had a FedEx ground package stolen off my porch in December, within an hour of it’s delivery time. I’m within a few blocks of the theft reported above, FWIW.

I think I may have had to register the first time I had packages delivered so that they had my phone number. After that, you can just have things sent with no advance notice and they call you when it arrives.

I’ve had this happen at my house near 85th and 16th. I found a package ripped open and all the peanuts on my porch. I thought it was my roommate at first. It’s sad, but all they got were counter top samples. I get everything delivered to work now.

Sounds like a fun project for a work from home day… put some garbage in a box, tape it up, leave it on the front porch, set up a small webcam behind the window blinds looking onto the porch, keep the display open on the computer while doing some other work, and wait for some fool to walk off with it. Then call the cops. I definitely have to try this.

Might be their last package pilfering. :D

“forget the garbage, why not go for poo?”

Forget both, a small explosive device that will remove the little b*ggers hands?

How about a dye pack and a note that says “You are so busted!”

    Then film it.
