At Denny’s landmark meeting

May 21st, 2008 · 6 Comments

Update at 6:20 p.m. Benaroya Company’s presentation is now underway.

5:45 p.m. We’re waiting for the Denny’s item to come up on the agenda here at the Seattle Landmarks and Preservation Board meeting. We have at least 30 minutes to go, if not more. Stay tuned…

As we wrote below, the issue is whether the Ballard Denny’s is economically viable. If the board rules that it’s not, the landmark designation may be reversed and the building demolished.

Please demo this monstrosity of a building…

With this gaping loophole, why bother with a preservation board?

I would tend to agree — even the Smith Tower couldn’t produce a “reasonable return” if the developer paid an obscene amount.

Can we have a demolition party when they tear it down? I’ll come wearing dressed as a condo.

I’ll come dressed as a beige condo wearing my Sunset Bowl bowling pin earrings ($9.99 a pair, now available on Ebay) to make it easier for the old timers to spot me.

Of course, I’d change my mind of the Canlis family opened a restaurant in there, at least then I’d know it’d be free of the old Ballard whiners, the prices would scare ‘em off like mosquito repellant.
