Hamburger place to replace Sea Breeze

May 26th, 2008 · 20 Comments

According to the sign in the window, “Hamburger Harry’s” is moving into the restaurant that was formerly Sea Breeze, on Market Ave. near 24th.

It’s a prime location, that’s for sure, but there’s plenty of burger competition around Ballard. So we’ll just have to wait and see…

Update: Ballard Gossip Girl says she saw lots of menus from other burger joints on the table inside. “It looks like they’re also trying to figure out menus or pricing,” she says. “I’m also really curious about the concept based on their graphics — casual dining with tuxedo-level burgers.” Hmmm.

I knew that place would close, what kind of bar only lets you have two drinks? Seemed like a place for the elderly owners to talk to their two patrons who read books in knitted book cozies (that is a true story).

Ugh, no more Hamburger or Pizza joints. Bring back Dandelion! or places like it!

Can never have too many good burger joints! I’m excited. Hopefully they won’t be $17 or something crazy like that.

Weird name!! Right now, in my mind, Zak’s makes the best burger in Ballard.

“Right now, in my mind, Zak’s makes the best burger in Ballard.” I’ve never been impressed with Zak’s, preferring instead to head to Red Mill.

Lunchbox Laboratory is good but high in the clever gimmick factor. Gimme a bacon double cheeseburger from Red Mill any day. Oink… err I mean yum!!

    Reply to “m”:
Is Red Mill really in Ballard, though? Isn’t Red Mill technically located in Phinney Ridge? Very close, but not quite in Ballard. Isn’t Phinney Ridge more so in Fremont/Woodland Park?

GB - I’ve been looking at m’s post. m didn’t exactly say that RM burger is in Ballard, though it’s certainly easy enough to imply. One thing is certain, it appears that m is willing to leave ‘the city’ to get a burger.
As for the minor point, please don’t take it to mean I am picking a fight with you or engaging in troll behavior.

    phinney ridge is in phinney

I would be really curious to see if this place actually changed hands. Its been under multiple other names with the same horrible food, two drink maximum and flacid decor.

GB - I guess my point is that I’m willing to leave the village for a good burger. Hopes are high for this new joint.

    No love for Zestos?

  • 12 mary // May 28, 2008 at 7:45 am

    Zesto’s not so much…

M - fair enough. When I made my statement, I was trying to be particular to the neighborhood of Ballard. I mean, of course when you think of good burger joints you think of places like Dicks and Red Mill. And, if you really want to hit up those places, driving outside the friendly confines of Ballard isn’t a big task. When I think of “Ballard” burger spots, that would entail places like Zaks, Scooters, Zestos, etc.

I, like you, hope we have a good, new burger joint on our hands.

GB - sorry if I missed your original point re: “Ballard” burger spots. I would truly love something here with good food and nice enough atmosphere that I would eat in instead of taking out.

    Fingers crossed!

I enjoy Red Mill, but really a smash patty is just not my ideal of a good burger. I want a burger that’s juicy & beefy, which to me means it needs to thick enough that I can order it medium rare, and preferablly see a little pink in the center. Otherwise it’s just relative grades of fast food IMO (of which RM certainly sits at the top.) For me, especially if you’re going to claim “Tuxedo level burgers”, a good burger has to compete against the Palace Kitchen Burger, or the burger at 34th st Bistro in Fremont, or now Lunchbox Lab…

I never even knew that Sea Breeze place was even a restaurant!

re: Burgers - Lunchbox Laboratory is THE place for that. Actually just got back from there - Prime Rib burger, havarti cheese, bacon, onions, green goddess sauce. Oh my….

I used to like Zesto’s fine until it got the #1 health code violation prize. Now it is hard not to think of that.

Red Mill is definitely solid, but always the same…

Ook, I guess healthy dining is out of style in favor of burgers & pizza. So many new greasy food restaurants popping up…

  • 18 Jasmine // May 29, 2008 at 6:12 am

I’m with Michael on Zesto’s… once they topped the list of worst violators by the health department I crossed them off my list entirely

remember that a good italian style pizza is a totally different thing than the greasy heavy Pizza Hut/Dominos style concoction. A simple dough, some tomato sauce ,a few slices of real mozzarella and maybe a half ounce of prosciutto sprinkled on top is a pretty healthful entree as these things go (unless you’re anti carbohydrate)

and even if its not a spinach & bulgar salad, I still think a high quality real burger is better for you than a mega-chain burger…

Plus who goes out for their healthful meals? those are what you make at home so you can splurge a little when you go out for a treat…
