New boutique on Ballard Ave.

May 29th, 2008 · 17 Comments

Dolce Vita boutiqueWhat used to be Collective on Ballard Avenue, is now an upscale women’s boutique called Dolce Vita. The place has been repainted, they’ve added a chandelier or two and put up a wall between the front half of the space and the back half of the space so it seems smaller. The shop just opened last Saturday and it still has that new paint smell. Dolce Vita has three other locations around the country - New York City, Los Angeles and Santa Monica. According to their website, they’re targeting “the young, the restless and the glamorous.”

I’ve been saying it for years: what Ballard Ave. really needs is an abundance of upscale women’s boutiques. Finally!

    “glamorous”

In Ballard? I thought REI and flabby tattoos were considered formal wear around these parts.

Restless we can do, though. Like me, for instance. I’ll probably go in there and spend 5 minutes before getting restless and going over to the bookstore.

i think i will enjoy watching this place go out of business.

“i think i will enjoy watching this place go out of business.”

I guess a potato sack and tattoo shop, much preferred by the women of Ballard, would have been better received.

Isn’t your wife a woman of Ballard too?

ok, why is it a bad idea for Ballard to become a higher-end shopping destination? more boutiques, the better, especially on Ballard Ave., if you ask me.

Hey I’m all for new businesses - last time I checked I haven’t bought anything from the random metal shop/junk shop across from the coffee shop (which appears to only be open 6am - 7am BTW) but seriously - how can anyone who take themselves seriosly think they are attrating the young, the restless, and the glamorous?

Does this mean more taxicabs and clicking heels in ballard?

I’m not knocking new businesses. Even if I’m not the demographic they are targeting, I spend all my gift dollars here in Ballard so they still get my money one way or another.

What I’m knocking is pretentious crap like “the young, the restless and the glamorous”.

    “random metal shop/junk shop ”

Yes, but that place has soul. Has character. Has a mangy dog and bipolar owner. How much more ‘Ballard’ can u get?

    M, my sentiments exactly.

“Isn’t your wife a woman of Ballard too?”

    Please, she’s a lady.

Well, the report is in, Mrs. Suthii bought a lovely frock here on Saturday. She looks great in it, although the chill on Sunday made it hard for her to strut her stuff and show off those lovely gams of hers.

Service was great, clothes were nice, no sign of the silly motto anywhere, so what’s all the fuss about? At least it’s not a Gap or J Crew, we should be grateful.

FYI if you prefer to see folks in potato sacks or head to foot fleece, you still have plenty of choices in Seattle.

It appears, taking words out of context is not just a problem for politicians and theologians. The young, restless, and glamorous comment refers to the designers’ muse. http://www.shopdolcevita.com/about.aspx.
Nothing pretentious there….the shoes are glamorous. If they were hawking Birkenstocks you might have a case.

    BUYER BEWARE
I went to the store the first Sunday they opened while attending the Farmers Market. I found 2 pairs of really cute sandals but couldn’t decide which one I wanted. I asked the sales clerk what their return policy was - return within 10 days with the sales reciept. So I took both pairs home in order to make a decision.

When I tried to return them the Manager of the store, Georgia informed me that returns are for STORE CREDIT ONLY - I told her my story and she basically said her sales person would never tell me that since SHE TRAINED HER - basically she was implying that I was lying. Not exactly customer friendly. I will NEVER purchase or walk in this store again - a lame policy especially with the prices they charge.

    You decide.
