‘Deadliest Catch’ nets huge ratings

Posted by Geeky Swedes on July 23rd, 2008

The popularity of Deadliest Catch is showing no signs of slowing down. The season 4 finale last night on the Discovery Channel beat ABC, CBS and Fox in the 9 p.m. timeslot’s ratings — three and a half million people watched. As we wrote this weekend, hundreds of people waited in line to tour two of the boats from the show at Fishermen’s Terminal.

I saw Sig Hansen, skipper of the Northwestern, in Cafe Fiore on Leary about 4 weeks ago...

I'm normally not the type to get giddy over celebs, but it really drove home the local connection we have with that show here in Ballard.

Watched it for the first time this weekend...fell asleep it was so boring.

Now, how about that reality TV show I pitched, based on the new Ballard: 4 BMW driving dot comers chase their dreams for a $500k 2-bedroom home in Ballard, by forcing some poor old Swedish grandma to take the money and run....to Kent.

Can't wait to see Sig as the Torchlight Parade as the Grand Marshall!!! YAY!

Suthii, probably the real reason you fell asleep was all the fancy neuf wine stuff you are always talking about drinking! ;-)

I happen to love the show, I guess because I grew up here and because of the fishing tradition. But also because I just think it's a fun show. To each their own, I guess!

I've seen Sig around. I wonder in reality, how the Hansens like this celebrity thing? Do you think they are embracing it, or are put off by all the new attention?

No such thing as "new ballard" any more than "old ballard". Just Ballard. Or another way to look at it is: plenty of both to keep things fun!

    "Dot-commers?" What is this, 1998?

Duncan... his jokes have been the same since about that time. (at least it feels that way)
