Disturbance in Market St. convenience store

Posted by Geeky Swedes on August 2nd, 2008

Last night around 7 p.m., quite a few police cars responded to Market St. near 17th Ave. Explains a My Ballard reader:

“There was big drama at the little store… next to the Old Pequilar tonight. Some drunk idiot was refused a beer sale because he was obviously drunk, he then blew up, bullied the owner out with threats of violence and started tearing up the place. Cops took him out well maced and in cuffs. Check the police logs for details. All ended well but I feel so bad for the family that owns this store.”

OK, so I misread the passage...BFD.
The point remains, the cops are typically slow responding to calls like that.

WEll, for one it wasn't at the tavern. It was at the convenience store. Two, he was threatening that he did have a gun (even though he didn't).

He was more than "disorderly." This man was dangerous and would have hurt the shop owner had nobody else been around.

I'm not suprised. After years of working at the Crocodile, I can attest that the cops have alot more pressing matters to deal with on Friday nights than a disorderly drunk. It's usually best for the tavern to deal with it directly. Having someone around who can administer a harmless beat-down once in a blue moon would be a wise investment.
  • Yeah, only people with guns can kill. No reason to care about a drunk person being violent!

Not that this isn't important, but "shots fired" or being hit by a bus are better reasons for cops to respond quickly. The 35th drunk and disorderly of the night? Not so much.

Thanks, Lizad. I changed to "responded."

Police cars raced to the convenience store?

More like leisurely meandered. It took an hour from the time the owner (and subsequently every passerby who stopped to ensure this crazy person did not harm a hair on the shop owner's head) called the police for anyone to actually show up.
