Artist continues mural painting spree

Posted by Geeky Swedes on August 19th, 2008

Ryan Henry Ward continues his mural painting spree across Ballard and nearby neighborhoods. Writes one My Ballard reader who sent us this photo, “This is the mini-mural he painted for our porch. We were able to contact him via your posting about his murals in Ballard. After he painted this today, we saw him up on 8th, prepping a long fence area for a mural tomorrow.”

I live right around the corner from the 8th Street mural and in spite of what seems to be favorable reviews I hate this monstrosity. First I think that this and all the other Henry murals I have seen around the area are artistically not very good and not very interesting. Second, in the case of the 8th Street mural it in no way shape or form works with the aesthetic of the neighborhood or the street it is on. It stands out like a sore thumb.

I happened to have have abeer with this young man the other evening in Fremont. Hes mellow and very funny. He also seems very well read and very intrested in global issues. He seemed to know alot about burmese history and issues. He told me all about 8/8/88. he couldnt stay long because he said his back was killing him when he sits down. He intoduced me to the coolest dog Ive ever met too. Merlin or marlin or something. best of luck to that young man. His depth and sincerety are taking him places.

How do I get in contact with him to have him do a mural?
  • I saw him today on 8th just north of 65th and stopped to say "thanks" for his colorful work that cheers me up instead of dragging me down. He was very kind and just said "sure" and smiled.

It's my fence that's getting painted and I'm not a little old lady ;) But I am hoping that the mural discourages taggers. That was the whole reason my wife and I decided to contact Henry.

We think it's looking great so far too, and can't wait to see the finished product. Come November through January I think the 'hood will appreciate the bright colors.

Yeah, I saw this wall a few days ago. It's a few blocks from my house, and it had MS 13 sprayed on it in huge block letters. Call me crazy, but I would bet the "MS 13" gang members who wrote this are 17 year old kids living at home, not the ruthless killers we have been hearing about. Hopefully...

Anyhow, the mural is looking good so far, and I ope this deters little punks from ruining the scenery. Taggers: Go do your throw-up tags on some warehouse downtown, if you really feel to "express yourself". Kids spray painting old ladies fences in Ballard aren't going to get any street cred, and if I catch you...

The fence (more like a wall) on 8th is constantly being scribbled on by wannabe graf writers. Hopefully this will make them think twice.

Pabst wishes it's murals were as cool as these!

i like the murals a lot. What I like less was him drifting in and out of his lane on Market last night in his truck while talking on his hand-held cell phone. One hazard of having your logo painted on your truck!
