We’ve received many emails over the last few months from our Fremont readers about expanding to their neighborhood. So we’ve launched FremontUniverse.com for the Center of the Universe. We’ll continue to post the occasional Fremont story on My Ballard, but everything else will go on Fremont Universe. And if you see something happening in Fremont, please drop us a line at tips@fremontuniverse.com. If you’re curious, by the way, this is our last new blog for the immediate future.

By the way, we’ll be on a City Club panel this Thursday evening with a few other neighborhood bloggers. More info here.

I'm sure if there was a statue available and someone was willing to pay for it and the transportation, it would be considered. I love that Fremont has the Lenin statue. He must rolling over in his grave. I especially love when he is decorated for Christmas.

Hi Kim,

Good point, and we discussed the two approaches at length before we went ahead with the new sites. There are advantages to each. In the end, we felt that the neighborhoods had distinct enough identities to merit their own sites with their own writers (who all live in their respective neighborhoods, except for Fremont, for the time being.) Going the separate sites route also provides a big boost on the search engine optimization front.

That said, we're working on ways to bring more of these "nearby" stories to My Ballard. Like you said, Ballard readers are also interested in what's happening in Greenwood, for example. So stay tuned, and thank you for your feedback!

Your blogs are awesome and have become the go-to source for so many citizens in the northwestern neighborhoods of Seattle. I thought this to myself when your Phinneywood and Magnolia blogs went up, and now that you are launching your fourth neighborhood specific blog, I'll put my thought out there for you to consider. Trudy's amazing West Seattle Blog covers an enormous geographic area of the city, but she doesn't have separate blogs for the micro-neighborhoods she covers so well. Her readers can see all the news for all that territory at a glance in one place. You've been aware since the beginning of your great My Ballard blog that your readers are not just interested in their immediate micro-neighborhood, but those nearby that touch on their hood or that they pass through on a commute. Why maintain 4 separate blogs when you could have one go to blog for the whole northwest (or north part of town if your energies hold out for more expansion of coverage). I'd like to see all the news and all in one place. I'm probably not going to visit more than two out of the four. But if you had it all under one blog, maybe with tabs for separate neighborhoods, and called the Umbrella blog Northwest Seattle Blog or North Seattle Blog, that would be helpful to your readers and maybe less detail work for you. You'd still be covering a geographic area much smaller than West Seattle Blog does. Hope this feedback is helpful. Your work is much appreciated!
