2009 ‘Dinner and a Movie’ schedule set

Posted by Geeky Swedes on September 24th, 2008

Dinner and a movie never tasted so good! Volterra Restaurant and the Seattle International Film Festival have introduced the “Dinner and a Movie” lineup for next year. It’s the second year for the popular quarterly series. For 2009 the SIFF artistic director has chosen four food-themed films including Babette’s Feast, Like Water for Chocolate, Tampopo, and Diner. Tickets are $125 and include dinner and the movie. A series pass is $500.

I can see that these are four stellar food-themed films, but not "Italian food-themed films". I don't think any of the three are Italian in origin, nor in the food that they emphasize.
    That said...thanks for the highlight!

Uhhh. Although Like Water for Chocolate is an awesome film, it is based in Mexico and is Spanish subtitled...Where's Moonstruck and Life is Beautiful?!?! Now those are Italian... Sounds like a fun deal though. What happened to that Cinema/dinner place in Shoreline? Oh yeah, got torn down...

I love Volterra on the rare occassions I can afford it. I must say that diner and a movie for $125 is a lttle steep...even if they throw in a bottle of wine..and is that apiece???don't they know that there is a recession on? I suppose all their rich friends will be able to go...something more affordable and interesting as far as movies woudl be more appealing...I mean those films are collecting dust at Rain City...

I have to agree, promoting the films is great if it is "food centric" but $125 is more than I would pay for a 5 course wine makers dinner, so sitting and not being able to chat about the food and wine would be too challenging for me at that price!
How about a set menu featuring the food of the "movie" and bringing that price down to $75. It coudl even be havy appetizers and a bottle of wine. The Big Picture show is cheaper, and that has a fun cinema venue....keep us in Ballard!

is there possibly a charity involved?
  • Andy
Kim: SIFF is a 501(c)3 non-profit. Really, what better charity could there be in this day & age to give to than one providing Seattleites with affordable art-house cinema? Food bank, schmood bank!

    Is that price for two?
    Don't forget Ang Lee's Eat-Drink-Man-Woman
  • oh, I like collecting dinner set and like movie talking about food and cooking too.

glad they can fill it up..Iam going to rent the movies and invite friends over for pizza, it will be cheaper and a little more cozy
