Farmers Market standout opens Anita’s

Posted by Geeky Swedes on October 12th, 2008

Chef Anita Ross, known for her fabulous crepes at the Ballard Farmers Market, has opened Anita’s, a new restaurant on Leary near 8th Avenue. We have yet to give it a try, but My Ballard reader Robert sent us a review.

“We had the chantrelle crepe and the jambon crepe for dinner,” he writes. “Although made in the traditional French style with buckwheat flour the crepes were light and fluffy. The fillings were savory, well seasoned…. Total bill for two dinner crepes, two dessert crepes and two glasses of wine: $54. Overall impression: small, elegant, tasty. We’ll be back.” We drove by on Saturday mid-morning — just a few days after opening — and Anita’s had quite the crowd inside. If you go, let us know your impressions in comments below.

    Anita's pre-grand opening hours:
    Tues-Fri 10-3pm & 5-10pm
    Sat 8am-10pm
    Sun 8am-3pm

Owner said that her hours may change.
More bistro-style food for dinner. Can't wait to try it! Thanks for your postings.

We went there for lunch the other day. They're still getting off the ground (for instance, iced tea is still missing from the beverage menu and there's no sign on the restroom doors), but the servers are delightful and the crepes are wonderful. The Ham and Gruyere crepe was wonderfully balanced and had just the right amount of dijon mustard served on the side. The banana and nutella crepe seemed a bit short on banana, but I did not miss it. The texture of the crepes themselves was so good, you could serve them to me without filling and I'd still like them.

Wow-my wife and I ate at Anitas tonight-the crepes were bland..had very little filling and were very overpriced. We had 2 dinner crepes (sausage and jambon gruyere) and a beer and a wine and the bill was 40 bucks.Outrageous for the quality of the food. I sent my first crepe back due to lack of flavor-my second one was no better. Anita came over and was concerned so we went to great lenghts to explain to her our issues with her crepes...oh well-her only answer was to consider adding arugla to them...they needed flavor...not salad greens. we will not return and have warned others already to avoid the place. Two friends whom we saw later on also confirmed their experince was similar-I want Anitsa to be good-but right now they are far from it and waaaay overpriced . Oh well-my wife suggested that that corner of Frelard had a restauraunt curse on it-Its right next door to the late Bright Street coffee turned BBQ place which now has a new name and owners...and is deserted whenever we drive by....

Dined at Anita's while watching snow fall under the streetlights last Friday. A beautiful night, complemented by Anita's warm lighting, service, and food. Wait staff was social when we wanted to socialize and non-hovering when we wanted more privacy. We had the blood sausage; loved it. Only advice: try to get a table in the front rather than the back ones near the bathroom. (The bathroom opens directly next to several tables, and one patron--what was he eating?-- layed down a room-clearing steamer whose unkind aroma caused audible reactions three tables down.)
