Veraci Pizza opens tomorrow

Posted by Geeky Swedes on October 28th, 2008

The finishing touches are being put on the much-anticipated Veraci Pizza joint in preparation of opening day.

After serving up slices at the local farmer’s markets, they’re finally opening their first brick & mortar store at 6th Ave NW and NW Market St. Starting tomorrow (Wednesday) you can get their popular pizza seven days a week. There’s a small dining room where they’ll be serving up pizza, homemade gelato, beer & wine and more. Their hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

I have had better. After hearing all the hype about Veraci I finally got around to having some at the Ballard Market, and I was very let down by the crust. I will say that the toppings were fantastic but to me pizza is not all about toppings it's about crust. Toppings are vehicles that allow crust to shine. The top of the edge crust was cooked, but the rest of the dough had no life like a real pizza crust should. The underside crust was doughy and tasted more like a wet flour tortilla then a pizza crust. It could be that they are letting the toppings sit too long on the pizza before throwing it in the oven. It could be that the heat on the base of the oven is cooler than the heat coming down from the top, cooking the top too fast. As much as I love their toppings, it could be some of the pies are too over topped, which might contribute to the doughy-ness. I am not sure but it is not worth the hype and certainly the 4 bucks a slice. I gave it more than one try before I came to my reasoning so it wasn't just a fluke that I may have had a bad slice. My problem with Veraci is the crust and I think it sucks.

Incredible Pizza!! The staff was busy but managed to smile and joke with the customers. The ambiance was prfect for the sort of pizza they make. AND Mannys' on tap!! We will go by for slices on a regular basis.

Awesome pizza, they are working out the opening day kinks with the register and getting the orders straight...but the pizza was amazing. The owner says that they will have mediteranean seafood dishes there this winter. I give it an A.

    I can't wait for this.

Could this actually be the answer to good pizza in Ballard / Seattle ??

Just had an opening day slice and soda; fantastic.

A true family run business and it shows in the product and atmosphere.

Boy, nothing like food and condos to get people going in the comment section of the blog ;-)

Sounds good. I hope they fare better than the other two pizza chains that have tried that location. I don't understand how it can be so tough there.

    Best to them!

Talaricos in west seattle has 14inch slices a must try for any pizza lover. have yet to try Veraci heard great things though.

Don't know if Veraci would pass "the box and delivery" test.

I think in this case, you may need to get your butt off the sofa as hot out of the oven is the way to go.

Bet anything they won't deliver - if their smart.

I best pizza I have had is Tom Douglas' place downtown - Serious Pie. Anyone had both...how do they compare?
  • Swishy Ballard Boy
Good pizza can't be stuffed in a box and delivered fresh. Only second rate pizza can survive that!

I wonder if they will deliver?

I can kill and entire pie on my own, easily it's so light and amazing.

    Nothing like American Pizza.
Hobbs, think more of a thin flatbread that's not too crispy, topped with the freshest ingredients and the best olive oil....simply tear off and eat.

    Three words: TO-DIE-FOR.....can't wait!

It tastes like pizza you'd get in Italy, plain and simple. Not like our American pizza. I haven't eaten at Crash Landing, but generally the only pizza I get in town is from Tutta Bella or Pagliacci.

    Hey Roy Hobbs,
I would describe their pizza as rustic. Expect imperfectly shaped pies, small burned spots on the crust and very fresh toppings. Also, don't expect mega slices like at Crash Landing. A whole Veraci pizza will feed two people.

    Can't freaking wait!
  • They looked like they were open last night when I drove by... the place was packed!
  • Ben
    Finally!
  • Roy Hobbs
Can anyone describe their pizza? I'm personally addicted to Crash Landing on 65th, but always willing to spread the addiction around.
