Ballard boutique is setting the pace for fashion

Posted by Geeky Swedes on November 12th, 2008

Congratulations to Ballard’s Blackbird boutique! DNR men’s magazine just named them one of the 50 most influential men’s stores in America. In fact they’re #11 on the list of shops that are “setting the pace in men’s fashion,” beating out Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom. The top of the list is Barney’s New York, with Seattle’s Mario’s coming in at #9. Blackbird is celebrating its 4th anniversary tomorrow.

Nothing like over priced crap that won't fit an actual man. If you weigh over 150lb and are over 5'8" dont bother.

They do however have some cool accessories.

Way to go Nicole! This is great news! I'm glad your little shop is such a success.

It's so great to see one of our little shops being recognized for their great work. Very cool!

Ayles, you're so right. Anything I can't afford, is overpriced.

Who needs this metrosexual, yuppie stuff that doesn't fit over beer bellies? A hoodie, jeans and a pair of rubber boots is all you'll ever need in Ballard. Mrs. Grubby still looks fetching in hers.

But Grubby, doesn't it make it all the more grubby when the clothes DON'T provide adequate coverage over the beer belly?

They sell hoodies there, but nothing with a Seahawks logo on it. Just fancypants graphics.

Jealous much? We should revel in the success of one of our own. Who actually is a Seattle native, NOT a transplant.
  • Wow, trolls. Do they fit with the Nordic theme of the site?

    Caw!

Marios is also a VERY nice store downtown. Mr. Handsome works there. Hubba hubba.
  • Ayles
It's not an affordability issue. It is simply a value issue. When there is no material difference between a $375 hoodie and one that sells for $75, you tell me...

Funny that you automatically assume I am dealing with a beer gut or that I do my shopping at the team store, quite the contrary actually.

yeah, i personally can't stand any of the "fashions" at blackbird, and i can't remotely begin to afford them, but it IS nice to see a local shop recognized even if i don't share the opinion of those doing the recognizing.

Ayles, I was responding to Grubby's funny comment, not yours. You missread.

I think the recognition for Blackbird is great as well. But I've never heard of DNR magazine.

backpedalbrown: your response was to Grubby Ballard, which was a direct response to Ayles. As long as we're calling folks out on misreading things here... damn has this board plummeted.

I don't mind paying good money for good clothes. I'm also happy to see them get the attention. I don't mind spending $400 on a jacket that's still going to look good 5-10 years from now but so much of what I see at Blackbird is going to look very dated, very fast. Can't justify paying that much money for something that's going to look silly in a year or two. On top of that many of the clothes I saw there were made in SE Asia so it's not like the prices are related to labor costs.

toudios, who appointed you as the board police?
  • toudios
    you are a tool.
  • boardbrown
    ok

Beer bellies are hot right now.
  • Grubby Ballard
Actually Toudios, my message was directed at BB who was directing his to The Raven and Nubee.
  • boardbrown
    thanks Grubby!

Blackbird's the best, babies. I'm 6'3" and it's the only place I can find clothes that fit my skinny/sexy frame.
