Houses may be replaced on Seaview Ave.

Posted by Geeky Swedes on November 12th, 2008

Two of the homes that sit along Shilshole may soon be demolished.

A land use application and a construction application were submitted last week for 6204 Seaview Ave NW (street view). The plans call for the houses to be replaced by a four-story building with four residential units.

    Preservation and restoration--not demolition!
  • bannedinDC
Ck, I have wondered about that myself. No idea.
  • Salidali
Yeah! I want the Azteca back!!
  • CK
I don't care about condos on seaview.. I just wish it were me that owned one of these shacks and was selling out for 7 figs or building a sweet new shack for myself there. That's prime real estate. I cant believe those folks held out so long.

Now for eyesores, what's the deal with that goddamned ugly wannabe spanish looking thing on the corner by Ray's?
  • Salidali
T.M.I. Ghost (hope you had a swell time though!). I would rather these old unsafe thangs be torn down over Sunset Bowl...I miss going bowling...even having to sterilize myself afterwards...which you have to do most after bowling alleys...

I lost my virginity in that green house. It was summer, she was older, and on her way to college out east that fall. It was a great summer to say the least and one of the most memorable. I kept in touch for a year, then that faded and we moved on. This was the mid 70's and those houses were in much better condition than now.
  • leavinglasballard
i, for one, am all for variety. these houses reminded me of what ballard used to look like when middle income families must have lived here in the 40's-50's era. they make me happy and i'm sad they will be torn down. i would much prefer to live inside one of those homes than in any of the new condos going up these days. that said, i wouldn't say i'm anti-condo entirely. i'm just sick of the homogeneity this city is heading towards with it's architecturally uninspired multifamily housing sprouting up absolutely everywhere.

A few years ago, one of the houses on this strip had a roof CAVE IN! For no particular reason. The house just decomposed. I think they are kind of rickity.

He was very sarcastic, but had a way of simplifying things too.

    thank you bb

"He had a flair for derailing this blog into negative arguments and negativity."

As opposed to the wave of possitivity on here today?
  • bannedinDC
There is someone who goes by the Suthii moniker that posts on the PI, Japan Today, and rarely in the Stranger forums. Just search the name. From the tone of some of it, at least in the PI and the stranger forum, I believe it to be the same person.
  • Grubby Ballard
People are selling? How dare they! Traitors to Old Ballard. They should be publicly named and shamed for doing what they want with their own stuff. How dare they!
  • kim
for some, it's flair. such a sarcastic one at that! and if you took it seriously, then you would need to just read through it. and if they're aliases, they are incredibly toned down.
  • Boxcar
Flair? He had a flair for derailing this blog into negative arguments and negativity. Besides, we believe he's still around, just using aliases, or "sock puppets".
  • kim
    shelia--

this thread would be triple digits then. he does have a flair tho......
  • Sheila
    I miss Suthii
  • Joey
Hey Nag I did not address my post at you. However, if it hit home because it applied to you, then whose fault is that?

I was making fun of the slew of anti condo posts that usually permeate threads of this nature.
  • kim
these houses are so salty ballard. wasn't one of them demo'd a few years back due to a landslide? if that's the case, they may all be in jeopardy now. and buyer beware!
  • boardbrown
Damn, more negativity. Can't get away from it today.

Do you guys really care enough to tear each other apart? At the end of the day you're all going to go home, eat dinner, plop down on the couch w/ Top Chef, and forget all about these crappy houses.
  • NAG
Well, JK, me too. I just can't get over the unfounded rudeness at #4 above, and it really ticked me off. Got the better of me.
  • swassociates
    Yo Banned

Other then name calling do you have anything to say? BTW - I've been called much worse.
  • JK
Heck with old houses, or Old Ballard - how about "Old My Ballard". I remember when this blog was actually cool and the comments occasionally helpful.
  • HausFrau
I'm happy to see that someone else uses the term "doofus"!
  • Ballard Woman
I will miss the tumble down charm too, but people are selling them, for a price that probably doesn't pencil out to renovate and live in them. Four living units has a better return than just one, and folks will clamor for that real estate...

I'm going to go with GB on this one...
  • bannedinDC
Dangit gcm, I was saving that one for the 50 count.
  • gcm
let's go ahead and set a myballard record pace for comment threads that prove godwin's law. you are all nazis. there. :P
  • urbanblight
How dare I be compared to those lovely charming homes. Fresh paint and some purty flowers and we have some old Ballard to be proud of.
  • NAG
Joey: back off, jerk. You're way out of line, not to mention wrong on all counts. I for one was not complaining about whatever will replace them, only that I enjoy looking at them in all their tumbledown charm. Jerk.
  • bannedinDC
Candice you are correct. I expect a large discourse here, so I better save ammo for those who deserve it. Not those white bread jive turkey home skillets.
  • candice.
Isn't it kinda early in this thread for the harsh attitudes?

I mean, jeez..... what are you going to use once this count gets higher?
  • bannedinDC
You don't know the term whitebread? It does not have to be a racial term you doofus. How about: tasteless, benal, empty, and completely lacking in anything beneficial.
  • swassociates
So I'm white am I? My wife will be surprised.
  • bannedinDC
It is funny. I don't consider that urban blight. You must be pretty freaking white bread swASSociates. Now for some real urban blight, might I suggest Gary, Indiana? Detroit also offers up a nice cornucopia of urban blight.
  • Joey
Oh no more condos!!!! Ahhh!!! Irrational complaints from losers who dropped out of high school and now can not afford to live in Ballard anymore!!! Ahhh!!!
  • swassociates
Oh no lets don't replace them. Urban blight is soooooooo much better.
  • GB
Not a shocker! Many of those houses along that stretch are old w/a lot of deferred maintenance. It's prime real estate...
  • NAG
No, no, no!! I love those old places. That really sucks.
