Discount flower shop opens in Ballard

Posted by Geeky Swedes on December 15th, 2008

Radiant Blooms opened a couple weeks ago right next to Paseo on Seaview.

The wholesale flower shop offers a modest inventory at a discount. “They have cut and potted flowers,” explains My Ballard reader Lydia. “I stopped in yesterday and bought some paper whites, mistletoe, a bouquet and some miscellaneous cut flowers and it was just $15.50.” They have plans to expand in coming months, including possibly opening a surf shop at the same location.

A surf shop? lol. I'm sure that will really fill a niche here in the Great Northwest.

Glad to know there is another flower shop in the neighborhood though. That IS something we can use.

I would have Googled that there are at least three other surf shops in Seattle before I spouted off about whether there was any marked for that here.

This is the best new store I've stepped foot in for quite awhile in the area. Definately worth checking out and supporting!

i know plenty of people that surf out on the coast. Definitely a market for it here. Plus you can typically buy better summer wear at surf shops.

Oh, sorry -- I grew up in California where people actually surf year round. Didn't mean to rain on your little parade.

    Mickey
Washington surfers surf year round on the coast and are far tougher and dedicated than any California surfer. You are welcome to return to SoCal. Take your attitude with you.

Why do so many people move here from California, and then act so disdainful of Seattle and the people who live here?

We aren't California, and don't pretend to be - why hate us when you show up and we aren't California?
  • Niles
Three cheers for the flower/surf shop.

Why do Seattlites hate on SoCal so much? Why evne put it out there. Is being from Ohio better? Or is it just the blogosphere that progigates such nastiness back and forth?

Who cares where you're from?! We're all here now. And more are coming. Be nice.

    Niles, mickey didn't mention Ohio:

"Oh, sorry — I grew up in California where people actually surf year round. Didn’t mean to rain on your little parade."

And to the best of my knowledge, I've never heard anyone from Ohio complaining bitterly about Seattle. Californians? ALL THE TIME.
  • The prices are the best around (even beat pikes place market). Also seth is adding crafts made by local residents/artist.
    Check it out.

    Thanks for the tip Misti.

I've never heard of anyone from SoCal complaining bitterly about Seattle (mickey is just crabby and cold), but I have heard it the other way around. Which is odd, because who cares where you're from?

Be nice, buy a flower and give it away...
  • cant we all get along californians need surf to.micky come on down and I will hook you up , i run cheka looka surf shop in fremont and am a partner with seth down at the flower shop. do you surf and if so did you bring a board with you when you moved? lets talk and get you in the water then you will see the light and wont have to piss off the seattle surfer who love to surf year round just to let you know thursday was 6-8 feet and off shore and all on a bluebird day you will love it. peace jeff 726-7878

I want to make sure that the flowers sold there are organic, cruelty-free, free-range flowers. No veal flowers. That's not cool.

Not hating on SoCal in particular, it's just that Mickey bragged about year round surfing in California like it's the only place on the planet where it's done.

In general, newbies from anywhere who begin a sentence with "You Seattleites don't know what a real (fill-in blank) is." get on my nerves. Then they'll rant on about bagels from NYC, or pizza from Chicago, or old buildings in Boston, a subway system in Washington DC. Usually when I hear these comments, I like to ask these newbies what their opinion is of our famous Seattle cold shoulder -and usually they have experienced it and think we are very unfriendly here. Hmmm coincidence?

And another thing....it may snow tonight. We'll be blanketed in an inch of snow and it will be 'impossible' to get to work for the rest of the week. Everyone will stay home. Dogs will be off leash for the day. It's going to be a giant city wide block party. To those who say Seattleites can't drive in the snow, I say we just don't want to drive in the snow. We'd rather take the flimsy excuse to stay home and drink a steaming mug of hot chocolate.
So to those snow driving experts in other parts of the country, please shovel your snow and drive to work in a blizzard. I'll be home, skipping work and sleeping by the fire while the flakes fly.

Funny thing about Ohio. I was at Ocho tonight, and a girl was asked for ID. She pulled out the expired/punched ID. After the bartender looked for a while, she offered that she had a WA ID, but didn't want to show it as she was "being loyal." WTF? This just doesn't make sense. You have obviously moved here if you are getting ID here. Just shut up and show it, or go home and drink root beer. No one cares about you being from Ohio or your loyalties! Gimme a break.

    Perfect, lakreitz, that's it exactly.

this is a super cool new shop and a welcome addition to the neighborhood! the flowers are really nice and reasonably priced. and they have plants! everyone in the store is really nice and they know a lot about the flowers. the surfboards are pretty rad - the shop is renting paddle boards so you don't need a 6 foot swell to ride. that means that the seattleites, ohioans, and southern californians can all ride together in peace, happiness, and mutual respect......ha ha ha! anyway check out the shop when you're in the area next!
  • Leslie
Go, enjoy and buy. It's a wonderful place and will grow with your support.

    Mickey

People in Seattle actually surf year-round.

    Welcome to the world.
