Garbage, recycling pickup… finally

Posted by Geeky Swedes on December 28th, 2008

After missing last week, Seattle garbage collectors will be making their regularly-scheduled rounds in many Ballard neighborhoods today (Monday).

A recording on PUD’s line (684-3000) says contractors will focus on garbage and recycling pickup over yard waste. Driving around Ballard, though, we see most people putting everything on the curb, just in case. “Customers whose collections have been delayed by a week can set out double their normal amount of garbage at no additional charge,” explains Seattle Public Utilities. “When setting out extra waste, customers are encouraged to place perishable food items in their collection containers and set bagged non-perishable items next to the containers.” (Thanks Chud for the clarification!)

Called (206) 684-3000. They said they were going to pickup it today or tomorrow. I suggest everyone else do the same.

No recycling pick up on Sunset Hill either. Any update? Will they come this week?
  • joshua
NO! The garbage men picked up the garbage and the boxes but not the bottles or the recycling can. I'll be calling them in the morning, I suggest everyone do the same. This is completely unacceptable. I am in loyal heights as well.

And STILL NO recycling pickup today...here in Loyal Heights! Has anybody else had their recycling picked up in Ballard today?
  • Nubbee
They picked up my trash, recyling is all still there, the cans keep getting knocked over in the wind gusts.

We had our garbage on the curb Friday just in case. Some critter ate a big hole in the bottom! Luckily our stuff was pretty much contained so very little was strewn about. Times are tough for one and all.

Yes, garbage trucks are swarming Ballard this morning -- be patient if you're heading out. I saw a truck on nearly every street between 65th and Market earlier.

All over Ballard, raccoons are rejoicing.

Yeah, I love it. We didn't pick it up last week. But we won't charge you to pick it up this week.

I was shorted a burger at the drive-thru earlier in the week. When I called to complain, he told me that's ok, we'll give you a free burger next time.

put it all out. let them figure out what to get and not. then haul back what's full. hassle, yes, but you're covered.

Steve - My schedule says that this week is a recycling week. Is it different for everyone?
  • joe
i just hope all the stuff i just piled in front of the house doesn't blow all over the neighborhood by morning.
  • Steve
Of course, that doesn't help us who have a ton of yard waste due to branches that broke off. Do I take that to read that this week will be recycling (to catchup), next week recycling (regular schedule), so it won't be until 2 weeks from now for us to have a non-full yard waste bin?

    per PUD message (684-3000):
"for Monday thru Wednesday pickup, contractors will focus on garbage and recycling pickup over yard waste."
