Inheritor of Edith’s house not ready to sell (yet)

Posted by Geeky Swedes on January 14th, 2009

As the New York Times reported a few weeks ago, construction superintendent Barry Martin said he planned to sell Edith Macefield’s old home. But according to a new story by KOMO 4, Martin says he’s not quite ready yet. “As soon as something happens to it, that means closure and I don’t know that I’m ready,” he said. Martin said he hasn’t put a price tag on the house yet, and he has not received any offers. (Thanks for the link Judy!)

I wanted to buy it and turn it into a coffee shop called The Last Stand. In support of those causes we stand up for against all odds just cause it is the right thing to do. Go Edith!

I was also hoping they would turn in into a quaint little bar, coffee shop, or restaurant. They can't possibly have the heart to tear it down after all she went through. If Barry just sells it, I'm afraid that will be the end of Edith.

Zipper, what a great idea! We could put in a coffee house and claim it as an historical landmark. They could call the entire complex "Edith's" or "Macefields." It would be a nice tribute to the old and an embrace of the *shudder* new.

Zipper, I like your idea. It should be kept as a part of our history. God knows there won't be much left, just a bunch of empty lots that "old" timers can point to and say "that used to be..."

I would like to see someone buy it, and lift it up high above the new construction. Put in a nice glass elevator and take a trip up to Edith's! Should it be a coffee shop or an art gallery or a wine bar or a whiskey bar maybe a wee diner open all night? Who knows, but I would go...

Or Rhapsody could buy it and put condos there, 1 per floor, 20 stories high.

I think the Ballard Historical Society should look into buying this property... would be fitting. Maybe they could get it at a decent price and could turn it into a local history museum or something.
