Inauguration day events (and freebies)

Posted by Geeky Swedes on January 17th, 2009

A few local events scheduled for Tuesday’s inauguration of Barack Obama:

- Aster Coffee will be serving red, white and blue waffles (topped with blueberries, strawberries, and whipped cream) and mimosas while the inauguration plays live on a big screen TV.

- The Barking Dog will open at 7 a.m. with $3 mimosas and one-half off coffee drinks. The inauguration ceremony will play on the flat-screens.

- Epilogue Books is giving away free “Ballard for Obama” buttons from now through the inauguration (while supplies last.) “Seems like people are a little down — economy, lots of businesses closing and such,” said Nathan at Epilogue Books. “We thought maybe it would make people feel a bit more lively to remember we are about to get a new president and it is such a historic event.”

- The BalMar is opening at 5 p.m. to celebrate the inauguration with drink specials such as the Baraktail. In the spirit of hope, we’ll be doing a food drive for the Ballard Food Bank. Bring a non-perishable food item and help create change for Ballardites in need. The night will feature Obama/inauguration-themed trivia upstairs, starting at 7:30 p.m.

- Egan’s Ballard Jam House is holding an Inauguration Jam beginning at 7 p.m. Musicians are welcome to stop by and jam while inaugural festivities play on a screen in the background.

- The High Dive in Fremont is hosting an Inauguration Celebration beginning at 9 p.m. featuring RA Scion from Common Market. $6 cover.

    Joe Ballard:
Don't worry. I know he is simply a man with a huge job in front of him but i do welcome his positive, upbeat way at approaching the dreaded topics at full speed !

I am just happy that we are going to start moving in a new direction, that is all. He is FAR from an "idol" to me at this point.

    Better than Bush.....

    GO Obama!!
  • JoeBallard
How could you not approve of Obama at this point? He hasn't done anything except to point out how 8 years of Bush has sucked (duh) and how he will change things for the better. Everyone has to like that!

I voted for him, but he is just a man with a big job ahead of him. I wish him the best, but the worshipping of him by some is worrisome to me.
  • Obamunist
    uuuuuuuhgh I came

I love how when people finally find something to believe in people label them as being 'trend' sucking. Liking Obama is not a trend.

Saying Obama as a trend is just as ridiculous as saying that 'going green' is a trend. And even if it was, it wouldn't be a bad trend.
  • Notta Lib:
    Since when is progressivism "communism"?

You are certainly free to invest all your energy in hate, but that's a most unproductive enterprise, as Jesus will assure you. All or nearly all of us who criticize the Bush regime do so out of love for our great nation, which he hurt badly.

Fortunately, Bushies could not fool all the people all the time. If you look at the statistics, showing 80% approval of Obama even before he takes office .... mathematically, even a majority of those who voted for Bush approve of Obama.

Join us, or at least enjoy a party. There's no need to be sad!
  • Notta Lib
Why do so many put so much into government? I guess too many slept during their history classes? Nuthin new here folks. Since when IS communism "progressive"? I will put as much energy into this guy as most in Seattle did hating Bush. Trend sucking yuppies and their little dogs next on Oprah!

You guys that are posting either as trolls or just cynics.....

Think about this- Obama was not raised in an upper class family, as Bush was. Both of them.
He went on to graduate from Harvard Law School, and was president of The Harvard Law Review.
We will have a very smart, and humble president.
Tomorrow will be a very good day. For not just the USA, but the world as well.
    :-)
  • When do I get my tax cut?
  • I'm AMAZED at the number of parties & events going on tomorrow. It's not just organized events, but potlucks & parties organized privately.

Maybe we've just become too cynical lately. Why not celebrate the peaceful and hopeful transition of power?

The next day, we work. But Tuesday, we party!

I'm staying home tomorrow, it's my day off!! And I'm NOT watching it!!! I'm sleeping in!!
  • JoeBallard
Jules, I hope he's everything you want him to be...
  • jules
there is an excellent list in the stranger of all of the parties around seattle tomorrow and the cost, which ones are free, etc...so hopefully that helps!

i took the day off and can't wait to celebrate and see OBAMA sworn in as our President.

    Goodbye Bush.

All hail hit.... Uhh I mean Obama
  • swassociates
    Lenin or Obama

How can you tell the difference?
  • JoeBallard
I'm going to start a petition to replace the Lenin statue in Fremont with one of Obama.
  • BlackSheep
Agreed, js - I wouldn't be Obama for anything right now. The expectations are a *little* high.
  • js
I voted for Obama, and wish him the best, but i am burned out on all the coverage and the naievety of the populus at large . He is just a man and we will see what he can do. turn down the volume just a little.
  • swassociates
Cuz I don’t know about you folks, but I’ve gotta go to work.

    Whatz Da Madda

Don't you know that work is obsolete in the new order?
  • Obamunist
I'm going to be in bed concentrating on Obama and on how much he inspires me, over and over until I have an Earth-shaking Obasm!
  • candice.
Is the city going to shut down tomorrow? Cuz I don't know about you folks, but I've gotta go to work. I guess I'll be the only person in the city that's gonna be watching it via DVR.

I'll be celebrating the inauguration by sacrificing a goat on my Obama alter in Ballard. All of those interested are welcome to attend.

On Inauguration night The Who will be performing "Won't Get Fooled Again"

The Aster Cafe on 24th Ave. is having an Inauguration party in the morning. There's a sign on the door stating the happenings. They will have it on TV I believe. Sorry, I can't remember all the details. Would love to go to some of these, but my kids have to be at school at 9 am.
Some parents are keeping their kids home for the morning, but the school will have it televised, so I might just watch it there. Happy day!!!
  • For the occasion, the Barking Dog alehouse (705 NW 70th Street,) is opening at 7am. Specials include half off coffee drinks. Read more at http://thebarkingdogalehouse.com/

I learned via sevennites.com that the balmar is having something, here is a copy paste from thier page. "Celebrate change at the BalMar on Inauguration Night. Doors open at 5pm. Enjoy drink specials such as the Baraktail -- it's crisp, clean, and strong, yet complex. And most importantly, it's completely refreshing. In the spirit of hope, we’ll be doing a food drive for the Ballard Food Bank. Bring a non-perishable food item and help create change for Ballardites in need. The night will feature Obama/inauguration-themed Trivia upstairs, starting at 7:30pm."

Thats all i've heard so far, hopefully some others post.
