Tis true. 25mph and a curb will tip a Wrangler. But typically you can just tip them back over. But.. airbag mess that up these days. :/

It's time we start calling these collisions/crashes rather than "accidents." Calling it so presumes that there was nothing a responsible adult could reasonably do to prevent it.

I was standing at the crosswalk waiting to cross Market from the NW corner of the intersection and saw the whole thing. The Oldsmobile was going full speed about until he reached the crosswalk lines and then slammed on the brakes. To me, it seemed like the driver of the Olds didn't react to the red light, but instead realized there was another vehicle right in front of him.

The Jeep was just traveling through the intersection as normal, until the Olds hit it in the passenger side rear quarter. It never hit anywhere near the door area. The Olds had decelerated enough to not spin the Jeep all the way around, and the Jeep traveled forward a short distance, but cockeyed. The driver of the Jeep almost got it back in control, but overcorrected and it just flopped over, about as lightly as you can roll a Jeep over.

I ran across the street to see if I could help, and the driver of the Olds almost hit me because he decided to back up across the crosswalk before deciding to go forward and turn right and park on 8th just south of the intersection.

thanks for clarifying tara.
the earlier comment listed both people as passengers, so it was unclear who was driving (the dog maybe).

glad they all got out ok. hope your co-worker recovers from any injuries.

Dear Lazy: I work with the female that was in the car that was hit so that is the source of the information I reported on. The male was the driver (the passenger side was hit). You may have a point regarding "t-boned", the impact was on the passenger side, towards the back - that's why more serious injuries did not occur. No airbags because the jeep is pre-airbag installing days.

tara's account doesn't really make much sense.
if the jeep was 't-boned' (which is an expression I really hate), how would the male in the passenger seat not suffer a serious injury? I don't see any deployed air bag.
you also make it sound as if it flipped after the accident was over.

no skid marks on the street? not much damage to the intrigue that was supposedly going fast.
anyone have the real story?

It's really nice to see that there is compassion (for humans and dogs and neighbors alike) in this big city of ours! Remember that article about
Seattle N(ice) and how we are a frigid city -- I just don't see it!

Here's the update on the accident, the humans and dog: The red car ran a red light that was a very red light and t-boned the jeep. Shortly after impact, the jeep rolled over on it's side. The female passenger was transported in an ambulance to Ballard Swedish Hospital where x-rays were taken to ensure no internal damage was suffered, x-rays came out clean, only bumps, bruises and a burn from the seatbelt (much soreness to come, I'm sure). The dog was held by a good samaritan who was at the scene of the accident during the ordeal. Male passenger did not go in ambulence so he was able accompany the ambulence to the ER to care for the dog and who is shaken up but OK. An off-duty fireman jumped into action to assist with this collision and the couple is grateful for everyone's assistance.

Yo - Nothing wrong in being concerned about the dog. It's called compassion. Try it, it's fun.
So, does nobody know about the state of the dog?

Yeah, I guess I am just more curious about the logistics of the wreck. Did the Olds t-bone the Jeep and tip it over?

You didn't see them very often before SUVs became popular, but now they are quite common. SUVs and loaded trucks can tip very easily compared to cars. A car has to get completely sideways at a very high rate of speed to roll over where an SUV can tip at less than 30mph.

I drove past there at about 7:20, just as the tow truck was getting ready to remove the Jeep.

For some unknown reason, police cars had boxed in a Metro trolleybus on Market. I suspect that this may have interfered with morning bus commutes, but I'm not sure it was related.

Those Wranglers are pretty tippy. Doesn't take much to knock 'em over. Any word on the dog? I hope it's OK.

not unless the driver was going too fast or trying that stunt where you ride on only your two left wheels.

I used to be really good at this in high school. once I got my chevette up to about 35-38 mph, I only had to hit a nice curb with the passenger side, and up I'd go!

never rolled it though.
