Todd Boettger could head home in a few weeks

Todd Boettger continues to improve after the brutal beating in Greenwood last month. His brother Forrest tells us that Todd “had the feeding tube removed yesterday (Sunday) and is now eating pureed food which he thinks is disgusting.” Todd went outside for the first time this week and is now aware of where he is. Forrest says, “He would look at me and say, come on bro let’s go take me to the car and let’s get out of here.” Forrest was in Seattle this past week going door to door raising money for Todd’s medical bills. He spent four days “collecting $50 checks from as many companies that would donate and gave flyers to each one of the businesses to post in their windows.” Forrest doesn’t know the total raised but says the first of the bills are coming in. The total for the first hour, the c-t scans and x-rays is about $10,000. His goal is to raise $50,000. Forrest says he’ll be back in Seattle in a few weeks to do some more fundraising and help Todd transition from hospital to home.

  1. That's good news! It's very encouraging that he wants to get the heck out of there.

I hope the hospital encouraged the family to file a crime victims claim through WA state L&I (although I know they take a long time to pay, and I don't think they paid much at all). They also should have initiated the uncompensated care/charity care process. It won't help much for physician charges and/or interpretations, but it should help with hospital charges. Many physicians will agree to percentage discounts, depending on the degree of charity care.

  2. Hurray for Harborview! I cannot say enought good things about the care give there – but it ain't cheap that is for sure – especially for these trauma
But they do have really good social workers that can help set up a good plan for care for the long term, and used to have a really good financial assistance program.

  3. Definitely call and discuss charity care/reduced rates with the hospital IMMEDIATELY. (today, tommorow)

Sometimes they will waive all or some of the bill, depending on income , etc. I've heard of people making 20 grand who get their bills waived, but you need to get the forms from the hospital ASAP!

Great to hear he's pulling through.

  4. Good news indeed. Thank you Swedes!
Forrest, any info on his attackers?
I'm curious, but I would understand if that memory isn't available to your brother at this time, just hoping that the police have some info to work with.
I wish I'd seen you in town last week, sorry that I missed you.
Best wishes to you and your family.

  5. although the headline is a little presumptious I am very pleased with my brothers progress, and yes hooray for Harborview! Todd doesnt remember his attacker/ers and may never even remember the incident but as long as my bro keeps on going the way he is, I believe he is going to be back with his daughter at home by mid june ( all fingers crossed ) Thank you for all the support that has been offered and advice on other avenues of financial aid. Im exhausted!

    Namaste-

  6. Thanks for the update, Forrest. As a little bro myself, I know this must have been awful. You've done a great job working with the community and supporting your brother. Best wishes on his continued recovery!

  7. Thank goodness!!!! I am so happy to hear that. Like others have said before me, it's a very good sign that he wants the hell out of the hospital and doesn't want the hospital food. :)

  8. i am so happy to hear this news! Way to go harborview, and way to go forrest, todd is a very lucky man to have such a great brother in times like these. i hope all continues to go well and that things will look up really soon! Best of healing to you, todd:)

  9. I am very glad to here that Todd is recovering. I want to alert you to the fact that I went to a US Bank a few days ago to make a donation and they had no information regarding an account for Todd. I insisted they google it and they found the account info that way. I hope Todd will be home soon and they find those who are responsible for his injury.
