The weekend events calendar

Posted by Geeky Swedes on June 19th, 2009

Lots going on in Ballard (and Fremont!) this weekend and it looks like the overcast, drizzling weather is going to stick around.

  • Celebrate Midsommar! Friday evening at the Swedish Cultural Center. Starting at 6 p.m. typical Swedish food of sill and potatoes will be served and there will be dancing around the midsommarstĂĄng.
  • Saturday morning there will be a work party at the new 9th Ave NW park, between 70th & 73rd. Work starts at 9 a.m. Bring garden tools if you can.
  • The Fremont Fair is this weekend, with the popular Solstice Parade at noon on Saturday. Our sister site, FremontUniverse, will have complete coverage.
  • From 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, the Nordic Heritage Museum Children’s Dance group will be performing at the Locks.
  • Piano Nobile (908 NW 50th) will be celebrating the solstice on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Summer Open Studio will spill from the gallery into the front drive, where local musician and author Steve Treseler and company will perform.
  • Sunday is Father’s Day and the Elliot Bay Pipe Band will be performing from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Locks.
  • For more live music, check out the calendars for the Tractor Tavern, Sunset Tavern, The Bit Saloon, High Dive, Conor Byrne, Egan’s Ballard Jam House and Nectar. As always, check out our events calendar. And if you have an event to add, just email us at tips@myballard.com.

Whatever, Grubby Ballard. I'm looking forward to the solstice parade. Rain or shine. It's always a good time.

Just keep the ugly, naked hippies in Fremont and outta Ballard please!
    • Well, of course, they're going to want to come here, Grubby! Now that Ballard has its own ugly, giant troll:

Actually just noticed the Bit link... But either way, it is Friday night and will be a great show.

For Non-Nordics, "sill" is herring. The Swedish Club has an AMAZING view of downtown, the Space Needle and Lake Union...also 3 free parking lots, which, in these days of paying for parking, is a a bonus!
