Kids have a blast at Fire Station 18’s open house

Posted by Geeky Swedes on February 6th, 2010

Ballard’s Fire Station 18 held an open house today as part of Neighbor Appreciation Day, and it was kid heaven, to say the least.

Kids sat in the fire trucks, checked out the gear and slid down a pole.

Firefighters even cranked up the ladder as a demonstration.

A great neighborhood event by the friendly firefighters at Station 18. (Thanks Silver for snapping the photos, and you can see many more here.)

  • P.S. I don't mean all ballard cops are awful people I just mean the ones that came on the call to my place were horrible. They should be better trained in dealing with the public an not attack victims they way they do at times. I thought i'd clear that up...talked too fast out of frustration and remembering what happened that day. Sorry. :)
  • The date of this incident was in 2004 as posted. No, I don't live there anymore. I called 911 and the police officers didn't arrive for ages. The ones that arrived were very rude and smarty with us when we were the victims. Thank God that the ballard firefighters heard what was going on and pulled up to my place and came in protecting us until the officers FINally arrived. I had to fight the upstairs drug dealing neighbor out of my place and if the fire fighters didn't arrive, the guy wouldn't have ran back to his apartment.
The landlord did nothing to the drug dealers that were all squating into the apartment, the city did nothing to them, the police officers did nothing because all of the people in that apartment all were his alibi that he didn't do anything and made stories up that little me was the one that was trying to attack him (in my apartment right).
It took a few days to find a new rental and we moved right out of there. SO, yea, thank God for the ballard firefighters because for those few days while I was still having to live in that apartment, I felt safe knowing that if something happened again, the firefighters were right down the street from me. I hope nobody else has to go through what I did. You think ur safe in ur home and the cops will do something if someone breaks in but that's not always the case.
  • Looks like these kids are also going under fire fighter training!!

We had a great time too! Thanks Ballard Fire Department!
  • I had a blast watching the kids have a blast!

the people above you broke into your house and you still feel safe living there? why was the fire dept. called initially to a burglary? when I called the police for an ongoing burglary at my neighbor's house, it took them 45 minutes to arrive--maybe I should've called the fire dept. first?

SPD should respond initially for a burglary in progress but SFD might be able to do a temporary fix on a broken door or window.
  • Ballard Fire Dept. are awesome!! I had a break-in at my place back in December of 2004 and those ANGELS stayed with us until the police arrived and even still hung around for awhile after it seemed. I would see them going by our place often after that like they were checking on us. They knew that the people above us had broken into our place and I felt safe seeing them drive by often. Thank you so much Ballard Fire Dept. I love you guys.
