In the face of a tragedy like this, Principal Brockman tells KOMO TV‘s Elisa Jaffe in the video below, “We have to come together as a community. We have to support our friends and relatives and the school community, and that’s what we do. That’s what the Ballard community does, we’re there for each other.”

Brockman knew the three young men involved in the crash. “These were great kids, great families, great community supporters, especially Ballard High School. These are Ballard families, second and third generation, and so a loss like this is pretty devastating to the whole community,” Brockman tells Jaffe.

Seattle Police have not released any new information about the findings of the accident investigation.

If you have a memory or encouraging word to share, we’ve set up an online memorial for the three killed in Sunday’s tragic accident.

  1. my understanding is that the flag is at 1/2 staff due to a WA military death in Afghanistan and not these kids. that's the standard protocol.

  2. “While community members, teachers, students and Ballard High principal Phil Brockman remember Kellen Jones, Spenser Millard and Mike turner, Susan Gregg-Hanson with Harborview Medical Center tells us the teenage girl involved in Sunday’s crash remains in the ICU in critical condition. “

I'm pretty sure Mike Turner capitalizes his last name.

Also, was Gregg-Hanson the girl victim? strange sentence.

  3. The sentence is just fine grammatically and clearly indicates Gregg-Hanson is the Haborview spokesperson. If one were to stuff the suggestion box one might note that the sentence is rather long for news writing. It might be broken after Turner, but personally I like relatively embedded sentences like the one above :)

  4. So – the latest information from the Times is :
“Less than a month ago, 20-year-old Mike Turner was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after a van he was driving crashed into five parked cars and slammed head-on into a tree.”

Many lessons to take from this, but if I had teen kids, number one would be don't get in a car – ever – with someone who has been arrested before on suspicion of DUI.

  5. I visited the crash site yesterday and admired the flowers and messages. We also noticed a number of empty beer cans and bottles tucked into the memorial. Who will be next tragedy?
