Naked bicyclists take warm up ride through Ballard

As is customary, hundreds of naked bicyclists from the Fremont Solstice Parade took a warm up ride through Ballard just after 11 this morning.

They rode down Market St., surprising drivers and prompting some onlookers to grab their cameras. The parade gets underway in Fremont at noon.

Fremont Universe attended the parade and has posted a bunch of photos.

  1. My husband tells me every year I should do this but I don’t want to be one of those naked fat chicks on bikes that people post negative comments about. If we could keep going it would be one thing but it’s the traffic lights you have to stop at (like in the bottom photo) that really discourage me.

  2. If you stop yourself because you are afraid of somebody criticizing you from the anonymous firmament that is the blogosphere, you’ll never do a thing.

Next year, paint your bits, hop on your bike and let your freak flag fly.

  3. Ah say ah say let no anonymous MyBallard forum troll tell you how high your freak flag should fly! Now I know they’re really nice people but they’re about as sharp as a sack of wet mice if you follow me.

  4. The Parade has lost its soul-Its is totally missing the creative spark that it once had. The same old groups-the same old floats-boooring!!!! The amusing political satire is gone. Not a single oil spill float??? The use of amplifiers and electricity violates the spirit of the parade. Kill it completely or refocus it significantly. Too much anarchy is tedious and lame-There should also be some rules about staking out prime spots along the route too far in advance-everyone who gets up early enough in the mornign should have an equal chance to get a prime location. Local businesses should not own the parking strip in front of thier business-

  5. Staking out parade turf is fine by me. We stake it out at about 8am and have a party at the house up until 5 minutes before the parade. That’s how we roll in Fremont.

Local businesses don’t own the parking strips, but if they claim the space before you, then you are out of luck.

I must say the food vendors sucked. I would much rather see all of Seattle’s mobile food vendors and local restauratns show up. It seemed generic county fair this year….
