BARK closing at the beginning of next year

After 11 years of owning BARK (5338 Ballard Ave), the owner is closing up shop.

“I have decided to close the store and take a well deserved break,” the note on the window reads. “I’m tired,” Karen, the owner tells us. “If I don’t do it now, I’ll never do it.”

Karen is keeping the name “BARK” and may use it again in the future. For now, though, she’s looking forward to taking some time off. She tells us that closer to the closing date, she’ll have sales on the remaining merchandise. Karen says that Damsalfly (5346 Ballard Ave NW) will be taking over the space. We’ll have more information on this soon.

  1. Don’t care. There are too many pet stores in Ballard anyway. Maybe we can get some of those sushi/Thai/Mexican restaurants to close too.

  2. I think all Ballard businesses should bite the dust and be replaced by a single store that carries everything I like and nothing else. It could be called “The Jackassery”.

  3. oh no, I love that store! We’ll have to buy the “kids” (har) Christmas presents there this year as a final thank-you :)
I love Damsalfly as well, I think this will be a good change for them…at least more visibility if nothing else :)

  4. I’m so sorry to see them leave!!! They were so nice and our dogs loved to go in there for sniffs and snuggles (and of course all of the yummy free dog samples). They’ll be missed!
