Free Molly Moon’s ice cream for kids

Update 7:30 p.m. Wow, we just returned from standing in line for 45 minutes for a free ice cream cone for the 2-year old. We counted 60-70 people in line, a half block long. The ice cream man says this isn’t close to his biggest turnout — the record goes to the Mercer Island Farmer’s Market.

Earlier: Back in December, Molly Moon’s ice cream announced they were going to open a third location somewhere in Seattle. To help decide where shop #3 should be, they are focusing on three neighborhoods and their Facebook “fans.” For the last two months their ice cream truck, dubbed Leo, has been in Madrona and Queen Anne. Starting tonight the ice cream truck will be parked in Ballard for the month.

From the “Bring Molly Moon’s to Ballard” Facebook page:

Starting this Wed, Feb 2nd, Leo will be parked in Ballard for the month of February! Leo will be parked in the neighborhood of NW 70th St between Mary Ave NW & Alonzo Ave NW until he can find a semi-permanent parking lot to park in.

…Kids who visit between 6-8pm will receive a free kids scoop!

Once the month is over, Molly Moon’s will determine which ‘hood most wants a permanent ice cream shop based on the Facebook “fans” and Leo’s popularity. They already have one shop in Wallingford and one in Capitol Hill.

  1. The mob of children is right outside my door. It’s really cute to see how much those kids want that ice cream, even at a wintery 40 degrees.

  2. I just happened to drive by there tonight and at first I thought it was some kind of school outing with all the kids lined up to get on a bus…but then saw it was not a bus but an ice cream truck…lots of chilly but happy folks out there ;-)

  3. Reminds me of old office e-mails back in the day…”There’s a platter of…” I never finished the e-mail, I materialized right there at the platter in physics-defying speed.

  4. Wow, waiting that long for mediocre ice cream, when there’s plenty of better ice cream to be had in Ballard. People will do anything when they see a line.

  5. we also waited with little ones for wayyyy too lang and turned around after 8 in fear they would turn us away after all that time( better luck next trip i hope
