The Old Ballard Firehouse turns 100

One-hundred years ago, the old Ballard Firehouse (5425 Russell Ave NW) was built as Seattle’s station 18. After being retired in the 1970’s, the building has been home to many things including the current tenant, The Hi-Life restaurant.

This Saturday, The Hi-Life is celebrating the rich history of the building and honoring the men and women that worked there.

The festivities start with a Family Style Pancake Feed from 8:30 a.m.-Noon. In the spirit of mealtimes at the firehouse, our pancake breakfast will be served family style with fluffy buttermilk pancakes, bacon & scrambled eggs. The entire Hi-Life menu will also be available, including our signature Firehouse Bloody Mary. 100% of revenue generated from the sale of our Pancake Breakfasts and Firehouse Bloody Mary’s will benefit the Seattle’s Bravest Charity.

The fun will continue with a Battalion #4 Chili Cook-Off from 12:00-5:00 p.m. Five Firefighter Chefs from the fire stations within Battalion #4 will showcase their most delicious chili recipe and present them to three judges for accolades and eternal bragging rights. The winner of the Chili Cook-Off will be announced at 5:00 p.m. at the Hi-life. We culminate our day-long celebration with our Saturday Night Special. Guests will be invited to purchase a large bowl of their favorite firehouse chili, along with house made Cornbread and Green Salad. 100% of the revenue generated from the Saturday Night Chili Special will benefit Seattle’s Bravest Charity.
