More trees being removed along 8th Ave NW

More dead trees are being removed from 8th Ave NW. The work started this morning just north of NW 65th Street.

“The cold winter of 2009 killed several of the Arbutus ‘strawberry trees’ that were planted on either side of 8th NW about 15 to 20 years ago,” City Arborist Noran Rundquist tells us. “We removed and replaced around 20 of them last year. This spring about 15 more trees browned up – probably a delayed reaction to the same cold weather event that killed the others.”

Rundquist says that the trees will be replaced with the “Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry” which can tolerate the cold weather.
