Meeting on car camping pilot project Thursday

Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church has agreed to be the first church in Seattle to partner with the city to provide a place for people living in their vehicles. As part of the pilot project, Our Redeemer’s will host no more than five vehicles in their parking lot and Compass Housing Alliance will screen the applicants and work with each family. The goal of the project is to get those living in their vehicles back on their feet and into housing.

Later this week, Our Redeemer’s will be holding an informational meeting to discuss the project. “Our Safe Parking Pilot team of congregational neighbors, representatives of the city, and staff from Compass Housing Alliance will be present to share the design of the program and field any questions you may have,” according to a letter sent to neighbors of the church.

People living in their vehicles in our parking lot will have access to church restrooms, as well as our hospitality and support. The city will keep a watchful eye for non-invited guests and move them to other locations. If you would like to join us in welcoming and assisting people who are moving to safer housing, please give us your contact information and we will gladly contact you.

The meeting will be Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at the church (2400 NW 85th Street.) You can read the entire letter here (.pdf).
