Ballard man wants suborbital adventure

Space Race 2012 is on! The Space Needle and Space Adventures, the only company that has provided human space missions to the global marketplace, is looking to send one lucky person on a zero-gravity experience of a lifetime. Ballardite Bo Saxbe wants to be that someone.

“The idea of a suborbital space flight is so monumentally amazing, it just blows me away with its awesomeness,” Saxbe says in his entry video. “It would be a dream come true.”

“The Space Needle was built when our country was in a global space race. With space travel moving to the private sector, a new race has begun that focuses on the best of what the Space Needle has become — a symbol of the aspirations of today’s world of technology and science. What better way than sending a person from our midst into space to mark our first 50 years and look into the exciting future that lies ahead,” said Ron Sevart, president of Space Needle LLC.

Saxbe is up against 19 other semi-finalists (watch all the videos here). “I’m in the SPACE RACE competition with 20 other finalists who AREN’T from the best neighborhood in Seattle. I AM, and I need help from my hometown Ballard friends to win. I know this is shameless self promotion – but I know I can count on Ballard for a little help,” Saxbe writes on the MyBallard Facebook page. Voting runs through March 18th and one vote is allowed per person per day. Finalists will be announced mid-April.
