Ballard mom raising money to send teddy bears to Sandy Hook students

A local mom has started a fundraiser to send teddy bears to the students who survived the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut last week. Hollie Butler is a Ballard mother of two, and hopes to raise $10,500 in the next 40 days.

“One small gesture of support can’t take away what has happend, but one small bear can be a meaningful symbol of the love and good wishes of people around the country who have watched the news of their lost teachers, administrators, and schoolmates with broken hearts, and who are rooting for these kids as they struggle to make it through the grief and confusion,” Butler writes on her fundraising site.

The teddy bears are from Gund and are $16 each, and there are about 630 students at Sandy Hook between kindergarten and 4th grade. Any remaining funds will be donated to the Sandy Hook PTSA. To learn more or to donate to Butler’s fundraiser, click here.
