The Shelter Lounge to donate sales from memorial IPA to Ballard Food Bank

The Shelter Lounge (4910 Leary Ave) is debuting a new IPA in memory of the owner’s father, and a portion of the sales will be donated to the Ballard Food Bank. The beer is called the “Helmsman,” and is a tribute to Kevin’s (the owner) dad Doug Carlson who passed away last summer from cancer.

“Doug’s presence was a staple around Shelter and many of our regulars, as well as staff, came to know and adore Doug. He was a Ballard native who loved his community and was loved back by them,” Trinette Terry tells us.

The IPA is brewed by the NW Peak Brewery, and has, “subtle notes of cedar wood, smoked salmon and spicy hops.” They’ll be donating $.50 from each pint sold to the food bank. To learn more about the Shelter Lounge, click here.
