Volunteers set to restore Ballard home as part of National Rebuilding Day

A Ballard home is set to be restored as part of National Rebuilding Day this Saturday, April 27. The event is an initiative of Rebuilding Together, a non-profit organization that repairs and rebuilds homes of low-income Americans.

About 200 Rebuilding Together affiliates across the country will complete 3,000 projects with 50,000 volunteers on April 27th. This year the organization identified 26 homes in the Seattle area in need of repairs. The organization aims to assist many of the elderly, disabled, families with children, and veterans in need in our community through the program. National Rebuilding Day is celebrating its 23rd year of providing repairs at no cost to low-income home owners.

In Ballard, Gonzaga University Alumni volunteers will be restoring the home of Diane, who often uses a wheelchair. The volunteers will replace the rotted porch and will install a wheelchair ramp to improve the accessibility around Diane’s home. They will also replace her screen door, clean the gutters and will assist with clutter removal and yard work.

More than 50 local organizations and companies are participating through event sponsorships, in-kind donations, and volunteer support, including sponsors: Van Ness Feldman, Booz Allen Hamilton, Perkins Coie, Stratos, and The Center for Spiritual Living.
