Friends of Kirke Park raising money for final touches

Friends of Kirke Park are still working hard to put the finishing touches on the green space on 9th Ave NW between NW 70th and NW 73rd streets. They’re raising money to finish the trellis, rain garden and skate park for Kirke, which opened last summer.

The group says they need $2,500 for the trellis, $100,000 for the rain garden and street improvement, and an as-yet undetermined amount for the skate “dot.” The trellis is a large wooden structure that frames the entrance to the park, completing the “front porch” of the park, as they call it. It will also serve as the site for the park’s annual family movie night in August. The skate dot will be a small skateboarding park, and the rain garden will help mitigate rainwater runoff and provide a buffer between the park and the street.
