Fremont 5K and Briefcase Relay tomorrow

Tomorrow (Friday, June 7) is the annual Fremont 5K and Briefcase Relay through the streets of Fremont. You can expect to see plenty of costumed runners making their way through what the organizers are saying will be the largest relay race ever in Fremont.

The event is a benefit for the Wallingford-based FamilyWorks Food Bank and Resource Center. The relay race starts at 6 p.m., followed by the 7 p.m. 5K run/walk and, of course, a beer garden open throughout.

The relay race will have over 70 teams of five dressed in business attire costumes from the waist up. Each team member will run 1 kilometer while carrying a briefcase full of five cans of food that get passed off for each leg of the 5-kilometer race. The food in the briefcases will all be donated to the food bank at the finish line.

Here is a map of the route, from their Facebook page:

The end of the race will include an exhibitor area, and the beer garden, which opens at 6 p.m.

Drivers should expect heavier-than-usual traffic in Fremont tomorrow night. For more details about the event, click here.
