Seafair Summer Fourth to take over Gas Works Park today

Today, thousands will descend on Lake Union to join the Seafair’s Summer Fourth  all-day celebration and annual fireworks display. To alleviate some of the post-firework traffic, Metro Transit will add extra buses to routes 26, 28 and 40 if it’s needed after the show. If you plan to take the bus to watch the fireworks, remember that buses are operating on a Sunday schedule today.

Here’s a schedule of events happening at Gas Works Park:

12 p.m. – Gates Open

2 p.m. – Velcro Mindset Performs on Stage

3 p.m. – Pie Eating, Sack Races, Hula Hoop Contest, Tug-O-War

4 p.m. – Payton Rector Performs on Stage

5 p.m. – Pie Eating, Sack Races, Hula Hoop Contest, Tug-O-War

6 p.m. – Payton Rector Performs on Stage

7 p.m. – Pie Eating, Sack Races, Hula Hoop Contest, Tug-O-War

8 p.m. – Exhibitors Close

9:30 p.m. – Beer Garden Closes

10:15 p.m. – Fireworks Show Begins

Parking is limited, so the organizers recommend either taking public transport or walking or biking to the event. If you plan to boat to the event, the south end of Lake Union will be open to the public to anchor. Channels on each side of the lake will be open until 9 p.m.

Also, remember that fireworks are illegal in the city, and the Seattle Police Department tells us that fireworks offenses are gross misdemeanors punishable by up to one year in jail and/or $5,000 fine.
