Local kids to compete in Ballard Pool’s Polar Bear swim meet tonight

Many local kids will be competing in the Polar Bear swim meet at Ballard Pool (1471 NW 67th St) from 6 p.m. tonight. The event is a community dual swim meet between Ballard Pool and Evan’s pool and is part of the Seattle Parks and Rec. 6 weeks Summer Swim League.

Kids have been training from Monday to Friday since the end of June for this exciting day. The grass outside of Ballard pool is sure to be filled with blankets and families while inside the kids will be competing in the classic swim strokes divided by age groups. New this year, the concession stand will be hosted by the Ballard Performing Arts Students as they are looking to earn money for their upcoming trip to Scotland.

“It is a true community event where families come together, friendships are made and kids in the area are having a blast while learning and developing what can be lifesaving skills,” writes My Ballard reader Esa, who informed us about the event.

On the organizational side, families who want to spectate should arrive at the pool by 4:30 p.m. to secure a good view and allow the swimmers to look up their event details. Ballard swimmers will begin warm-ups at 5 p.m. Swimmers will meet with their coaches to find their relay teams immediately after warm-ups.

Good luck to our local young swimmers!
