Envisioning Ballard to Interbay land use study update

The ball is still rolling on the Envisioning Ballard to Interbay Land Use Corridor Study, and the city has just compiled community feedback into a document called, “What We Heard” (PDF). The study is aimed at understanding how the three-mile corridor along Elliot Ave NW and 15th Ave NW is changing and how to guide land development the future.

Goals for the study include clarifying the desired mix and balance of land uses in Interbay, including industrial and non-industrial. The study also aims to look at how new transit investment might increase demand for new mixed-use development, and where streetscape improvements might be needed to support future development.

The Envisioning Ballard to Interbay project organizers plan to bring preliminary recommendations for the area and community comments to the city council this fall. Then, based on the council’s response, they will issue final recommendations before the end of the year. They say that if any rezoning legislation or environmental analysis is needed, those recommendations would be prepared and presented to the council in 2014.
