New teen only after school classes to kick off in Ballard

anchor-giarratanoThis fall Ballard teens will have the opportunity to take part in two new after school activities. Fighting Chance Seattle and Mythos Art Club, which were both founded by Ballard resident Jordan Giarratano, will be offering teen-only classes starting late this month.

Fighting Chance Seattle will offer Teen Kickboxing classes where students will practice fundamental techniques and learn about the history and philosophy of martial arts. Giarrantano’s classes will focus on cultivating self-esteem, respecting others, self-defense awareness and building good mind-body wellness habits. The fall classes will start on September 24 and 26 at 4:15 p.m. with two free classes. Monthly tuition fees will be $98 thereafter. Mythos Art Club will also be on offer for teens after school. The club will offer a Teen Comic Book class where students will learn the art of storytelling through comics. Students will come up with their own concepts and characters, write and draw their stories and produce and publish a finished, photo-copied comic book. The class will be hosted at the Ballard Community Center (6020 28th Ave NW) and will be taught by Mythos Art Club co-founders Jordan Giarratano and Erick Lingbloom, with guest demos by other Mythos artists. The club will meet for eight weekly sessions starting Wednesday, September 25 from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. Cost of participation is $120 and includes supplies and the cost of producing 15 copies of each student’s final comic book project.
