The Calf & Kid to open cheese bar in Ballard

Just in case you were worried Ballard didn’t care enough about cheese, that’s all about to change: the Calf & Kid cheese company is opening Seattle’s first cheese bar in our neck of the woods. Cheese mastermind Sheri LaVigne opened Calf & Kid in Melrose Market three years ago, but she’s now looking expand by opening a spot in Ballard. She’s started a Kickstarter campaign to help raise funds to get the cheese bar up and running, which she hints at opening in early 2014.

“The Capitol Hill neighborhood has been very good to us, but it’s time to spread the cheesy love, and I am beyond excited to bring you the next great step in all things fromage: A full service Cheese Bar located in the fun, funky Ballard neighborhood,” LaVigne writes on the Kickstarter campaign. “The people of Ballard know and appreciate great food, so I can’t think of a better pairing for my second cheese-centric adventure.”

Calf & Kid has garnered quite a bit of attention in its short life; Anthony Bourdain stopped by the shop on his show The Layover. They go beyond offering up specialty artisan cheeses; they also host tours at local farms and put on often-sold-out cheese-making classes.

The funding goal on the Kickstarter campaign is $45,000. Click here to learn more.
