CenturyLink surprises Whitman Middle School teachers with grant

whitmanA group of teachers from Whitman Middle School were given the surprise of their lives yesterday afternoon when representatives from CenturyLink presented them with a $5000 grant.

The CenturyLink Teachers & Technology grant program is celebrating innovative teachers across the state who are enhancing curriculums with technology-based learning projects.

Whitman librarian Chris Gustafson and eighth grade teacher team Gabe Herbison, Barb Beers, Robin Smith, Josh Gilbert, Jen Woodman, and Beth Hardy were chosen by CenturyLink for their use of technology in student learning projects.

The teachers at Whitman intend to purchase iPads with project based apps and cloud capabilities for their students to use in the classroom. As a team their vision is to incorporate technology into creating standards-based lessons that allow students to collaborate and create through innovative technology tools.

Whitman students will be using apps including iMovie and Noteability to show what they have learned, and post their work to their class YouTube channel when appropriate.

CenturyLink will be awarding a total of $100,000 in grants to 21 teachers in Washington State this year.

Congratulations to the team at Whitman Middle School!
