What’s on this weekend

Syttende Mai weekend has arrived and there is plenty to do in our ‘hood. Check out the list of events below:

Friday, May 16:

  • Our Lady of Fatima presents Willy Wonka Junior at 3301 West Dravus Street at 7 p.m. The cast and crew of Our Lady of Fatima School would like to invite you to a family event. Cost is free.
  • Moonlight Yoga at Kula Movement, Center for Yoga & Health (5340 Ballard Ave NW) from 8 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Monthly Moonlight Yoga brings music and movement together to find more freedom in your practice. Enjoy a candlelit, sweaty, and fun practice to move as your heart desires. Cost is $20.
  • Comedy Sportz Seattle Show at new venue Atlas Theatre (3509 Fremont Ave N) at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Click here for more details and to buy tickets.

Saturday, May 17:

  • Street Scramble Ballard at the Nordic Heritage Museum (3014 NW 67th St) at 9:30 a.m. Thirty checkpoints are marked on a map… how many can you find in 90 minutes or 3 hours? Everyone gets to turn the neighborhood into a great adventure, and see some terrific gems along the way! Click here for more details.
  • Syttende Mai Festivities all over Ballard from 10 a.m. Click here for all of the details.
  • Saturday Morning Reteat: Meditation and Dealing with Stress at Kadampa Meditation Center (6556 24th Ave NW) at 10 a.m. Take a break from your distractions and connect to your quiet mind and deeper goals. Two sessions: 10:00-11:00 a.m. and 12:00-1:00 p.m. Come to one or both, whatever your schedule allows. Cost is $10 per session, or $20 for all sessions.
  • Souluminations Fundraiser “Fashion for the Soul, A Woman’s boutique” at 5201 11th Ave NW from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The sale is open to the public and 100% of the proceeds raised will go to Souluminations. There will be adult beverages and appetizers available and the event is free for the public. Cash and credit cards are accepted.
  • Sustainable Ballard Open House at Ballard Library (5614 22nd Ave NW) from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Learn more about the projects they have cooking, come find out what they’re all about and sign up for something that interests you.
  • Olaf’s Syttende Mai Celebrations at 6301 24th Ave NW from 11am. They are offering $2 beers and $2 hot dogs, a selection of Aquavit’s and special commemorative t-shirts.
  • Sur Flicka Trunk Show at the Hourglass Footwear Showroom (corner of Dock and Leary in the Ballard Woodworks building) from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. Sur Flicka specializes in Scandinavian mod-themed clothing, jewelry, home decor, and more.

  • Ballard Farmers Markets along Ballard Ave from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Click here to see this week’s specials.
  • The Gauntlet Seattle Games for Child’s Play at Card Kingdom (5105 Leary Ave NW) from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. Card Kingdom is hosting games for the public to benefit Child’s Play charity. Participants can donate $5 per player to play a game and get some sweet swag! Click here for more details.
  • Mostly Nordic Concert Series: Fantastically Finnish at the Nordic Heritage Museum (3014 NW 67th St) from 5 p.m. Award-winning pianist Ruusamari Teppo is joined by cellist Jussi Makkonen. Click here for more details and to purchase tickets. Ticket prices start at $22.
  • Tai Shan “Living Fiction” CD Release Party with Read and Destroy at The Tractor Tavern (5213 Ballard Ave NW) at 7:30 p.m. Join Bushwick Book Club favorite Tai Shan and friends to celebrate the release of the Cornish-educated pop-folk artist’s new album of songs inspired by works of literature. Cost is free.
