It’s shaping up to be another busy weekend in Ballard. Here’s a look at what the neighborhood has to offer this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Friday, July 18

  • Go Granny D! at the Ballard Underground (2220 NW Market St) at 7 p.m. Off-Broadway actress Barbara Bates Smith and musician Jeff Sebens highlight the story of Doris ‘Granny D’ Haddock, who campaigned for finance reform at the age of 90. Tickets from $10. Click here for more details.
  • Black Tie Productions presents Emerald City at the Ballard High School Performing Arts Center (1418 NW 65th St) at 7 p.m. A musical comedy featuring the trials of a newly-minted college graduate from North Dakota is invited by Microsoft to work in Seattle. Tickets are $20 for adults, and $10 for students.
  • Young Shakespeare Workshop presents A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Ballard Odd Fellows Hall (1706 NW Market St) at 7 p.m. Click here for more details.
  • LanceLife at the Ballard Underground (2220 NW Market St) at 8:30 p.m. An evening of comedic takes on self-help seminars. Tickets from $10. Click here for more details.
  • Live Music at Tractor Tavern (5213 Ballard Ave NW) at 9 p.m. Featuring The Motet and Turkuaz. Tickets are $13.50. 21 and over. For more information, click here.
  • 21st Anniversary Weekend at Conor Byrne Pub (5140 Ballard Ave NW) at 9 p.m. Featuring Home Sweet Home, Sassparilla, Risky Liver, and an acoustic set from The Crying Shame. Tickets are $10. For more information, click here.
  • 7 Minutes in Heaven Improv at the Ballard Underground (2220 NW Market St) at 10 p.m. An improvised speed-dating show, with audience members allowed to wander throughout the show to choose their own adventure. Tickets from $10. Click here for more details.

Saturday, July 19

  • Beekeeping 301: Winterizing Your Hive Seminar at Swansons Nursery (9710 15th Ave NW) from 10 a.m. to noon. Corky Luster of the Ballard Bee Company discusses late summer and fall hive management and explains what to do to prepare hives for the winter. Class size is limited, and a fee of $35 holds your spot.   • Summer Concerts at the Ballard Locks featuring Batucada, and their Brazilian samba, chorus, and forro. The show starts at 2 p.m. on the Ballard Locks lawn. Click here to see the full summer schedule.
  • Grow, Cook, Eat: A Food Lover’s Guide to Vegetable Gardening at Swansons Nursery (9710 15th Ave NW) from 2 to 3 p.m. Award-winning radio commentator and author Willi Galloway shares her gardening advice about growing and using vegetables in your kitchen. Click here for more information.

  • A Dry Rain Podcast with Willi Galloway & Friends at Swansons Nursery (9710 15th Ave NW) from 1 to 2 p.m. The first-ever live recording of this podcast on gardening in the Pacific Northwest and beyond, which will be posted after the fact on iTunes and at ADryRain.net. Click here for more information.
  • Summer Concerts at the Ballard Locks featuring the West Seattle Big Band, and their classic big band sound. The show starts at 2 p.m. on the Ballard Locks lawn. Click here to see the full summer schedule.
  • Sons of Norway Spaghetti Dinner, Bingo and Karaoke at the Leif Erikson Lodge (2245 NW 57th St) at 2:45 p.m. Dinner will be served around 5 p.m., and is $7 for adults when purchased in advanced, or $10 at the door. $5 for children 12 and under. For more information, click here.
