Man carjacked at gunpoint at Golden Gardens Monday night

By Joe Veyera

Seattle Police Department (SPD) robbery detectives are investigating after a man was robbed and carjacked at gunpoint at Golden Gardens Park late Monday night.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Monday, the victim was digging in his pocket for his car keys, when a group of four men approached him, and one asked to use his cellphone. When the victim refused, one of the suspects struck the victim on the head and pulled out a gun. The suspect pointed the gun at the victim before demanding his wallet, keys, and phone.

The four suspects then fled the scene in the victim’s 2008 Honda Accord, with the victim flagging down a passerby, who called police. Officers conducted a search of the area, but were unable to locate the suspects.

  1. The moral of the story is that Golden Gardens needs to be cleaned up to become a safer place. I don’t care if it was late at night, I’m tired of reading about people being mugged and assaulted at GG. It’s only a matter of time until these things start happening in broad daylight. And to the victim who was assaulted and had your car stolen, I wish you a speedy recovery.

  2. I am sorry for the victim of this crime. And sorry to see what Golden Gardens has become. I brought visitors down there a few weeks ago before sunset and there in the parking lot were a bunch of jerks, male and female, arguing, and one threw a beer bottle high in the air into the woods, and the others began stirring up a big fight, all with their pit bulls running loose. Forget about police presence…I’ve been on that beach with dogs running everywhere and have seen the cops walk right past without saying a word. It’s complete lawlessness there. (And I don’t want to steer off-topic to leash laws…if it were people’s pet poodles that get cleaned up after, I wouldn’t mind so much, but just try relaxing on the beach when a drunken man with an off-leash Rottweiler shows up and the dog bounds toward you and he slurs “Ish all right, he’s a nysh dog…”)

  3. I do hope the lack of any descriptions isn’t due to some misguided attempt at political correctness. Not describing the individuals in any way makes it less likely they will be caught and more likely some other poor bastard will get mugged by them.

  4. There’s your vibrant, dense urban village neighborhood for ya. Thanks, great leaders, for turning all of Ballard into your vision! Expect more and more of this!!
