Volunteers needed for United Way of King County’s Free Tax Campaign

United Way Tax Preparation at The Seattle Public Library, April 1, 2014

United Way of King County is looking for volunteers to assist with their Free Tax Campaign at the Phinney Neighborhood Center.

The campaign started as a grassroots initiative in White Center thirteen years ago led by United Way of King County. Over the years the campaign has spread throughout the county in an effort to connect low-income workers to the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). According to UWKC, the EITC is considered as one of the most successful federal anti-poverty measure in the last four decades.

To reach their goal of serving 20,000 people across King County, United Way is recruiting and training over 1,000 volunteers to prepare taxes and connect clients to public benefits.

Volunteer Tax Preparers and Benefits Specialists work one-on-one with friends and neighbors to connect clients to benefits and bring an average of $30,000 back into their communities.

All are welcome to join the team, receive training and help reach the people who need it most. No experience is needed.
