Ballard Pool undergoes rennovations to meet ADA standards

Starting today, the Ballard Pool (1471 NW 67th St) parking lot and public locker rooms will be under construction to accommodate required facility improvements that will meet the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.

Seattle Parks and Recreation have hired Forma Construction, who will have crews working at the pool from today through January 9, 2015.

During the first week of construction, the parking lot is the only area of the pool that will be affected. Two current disabled parking spots and surrounding space are set to be improved.

The current disabled parking spots will be relocated during construction to the front entrance load and unload area.  A temporary fence will also enclose the construction area and temporarily eliminate approximately three parking spots during the construction time.

On November 24, crews will begin working on the family changing rooms and locker rooms. The two family changing rooms off the lobby area will be updated and improved to allow easier access for all. These changing rooms will be closed for the duration of the project.

Seattle Parks is working with Forma Construction to minimize the impact to the pool which will remain open during construction. The public locker rooms will be open and accessible during program times.

Construction improvements that are set for the locker rooms will occur after hours and not affect users of the pool.

Ballard Pool staff encourage patrons to plan in advance for delays which may include arriving early, carpooling, having a friend or family drop you off or even being prepared to walk a greater distance to the pool. Additional parking will be available in the evening in the school lot.

Madison Pool, at 13401 Meridian Ave N, provides plenty of parking close to its entrance and Parks pool staff will have All-City pool schedules available at the pool for swimmers’ convenience.
