Ballard scavenger hunt to fundraise for Parkinson’s research

raceAt the end of May there will be a scavenger-hunt styled competition in Ballard, the proceeds for which will benefit Parkinson’s research. The Adventure Race for Parkinson’s will be held on Saturday, May 30, and the funds will go to support the Washington State Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA), which raises money for patients and research.

The race starts and ends in Ballard, and will challenge participants to “complete feats of mental and physical prowess, racing by foot to each location,” according to the organizers. Each team will follow clues to get from place to place, and will be permitted to use smartphones to access maps, research answers and call friends for help. The post-race party will be held at Hilliard’s Brewery for prize giveaways, including Seahawks tickets, a Richard Sherman autographed football, an Xbox, gift cards and more (there’s a prize list on their Facebook page if you want to know the payoff).

“Parkinson’s Disease has touched my family and inspired me to raise awareness and inform people about the impact this disease could have on any of us,” Jon Adams, Race Co-chair, writes in a statement.  “I’m so proud to be part of this event; bringing the community together to embrace a shared goal while having fun racing through our amazing city is a great feeling.”

The race entry is $45 per person, and registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis and will close at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, May 28. Registration and more information can be found here.
